the SDV6 engine is prone to breaking its crank.

I think you may need to look up the meaning of “prone” |

If the petrol variants don't appeal then I'm sure neither would the diesel v8 as the economy of that engine is pretty poor compared to the sdv6. MY18 SCV8 Satin flux silver

The SVR doesn't appeal as its too loud to be used in a relaxing way (for me personally - I'm sure its a great car).

Hi DM, I'm fortunate enough to own both the SDV6 and the SDV8. Although on paper there isn't much between the engines in performance or fuel efficiency, in the real world I personally find there is a significant difference, to the point I actively avoid driving the V6. Aurally the SDV8 has a pleasant rumble (I removed the rear mufflers which enhances that somewhat ).

What sort of off road driving will you be doing? The Velar is pretty accomplished off road considering it doesn't have low range. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

Nothing that serious just going to be in a much more mountainous country a lot more with much more variable weather and snow and would be happier with a Sport and some winter wheels

Will see what the monthly cost difference is between the two and go from there I’ve got the D300 Velar which I’m guessing is the same SDV6 engine give or take and have had SDV8s in full size Range Rovers and the odd loan Range Rover Sport - it felt a bit rumbly to me but maybe I’m remembering it wrong. Thanks ! |

I'm another SDV8 owner and also drove extensively before purchase. At most fuel economy seems similar or better, I hired a SDV 6 in iceland recently and it returned worse fuel than my V8. No crank issues, no Add Blue, in my model, and more performance. Also all the extra goodies that come with the V8. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW. |

I have not looked at residuals but think a lot would buy second hand based on Fuel economy, mind you a broken crank would cost more than the fuel savings. Add blue not on my 2016 which I love. In Australia the V8 gets a lot of goodies as standard. All the locking diff's and dynamic torque vectoring comes standard as well as the big brakes etc. I've never gone through the gear by gear accel or even looked for it but seat of the pants tells me the V8 is better all over and if you are to tow will be much better.
