Detachable Tow and LR

I have received a handbook supplement from my LR dealer on towing with the detachable tow bar and told that I can no laonger tow a car trailer with my classic car on it unless. I fit a permanent tow as the detachable one is loose and is apparently only ment for occasional use for light loads.
They quote a nose weight of 150 kg but I don’t know what that equates to as a gross trailer weight, if anyone can tell me that would be helpful please?
I am not impressed with having to consider paying for a fixed tow bar when I already have the detachable one which on my previous Sport did 115k miles using a detachable bar without issue.
Moan over, for now Michael

I thought if they inspected it and it was not fit for purpose ie to much movement then they replaced it free of charge Thumbs Up

Hi,
I would be challenging their comments Shocked it is either Safe to use or is not Question

you then decide which bar is most suitable removable for Occasional use and Fixed for more regular use the car will still pull the same weight

Have a read up on Nose weight this is the weight you are applying in a downward force on the bar (simply speaking!)

its how you are loading the trailer that gives the nose weight and very easy to overload, especially with a car on a trailer drive it too far forward and loads of nose weight

best to get that checked and as said get them to put in writing its safe to use or Not if not I will have a new one then please FOC.

Shouldn’t be covered by warranty unfortunately, reading the warranty T&C, it’s exempt, comes under normal wear and tear, and even if brand new and fitted by LR, has a max 2 year warranty now from new.
If it is unfit for purpose they should tell you, or remove it at your cost. John

Hi,
I don't understand it to be a Warranty issue, its from the "safety notification/alert" (whatever its called Rolling Eyes )

No time limit, if the car has not been checked then its on L/R recall list, mate has just had his 2008 car done, passed fine and manual supplement sheet given.

Hi , my 2008 tdv8 went into local main LR dealer on Thursday for new front bushes and when I got there they told me they were going to inspect my detachable tow bar as part of a recall under warranty!! as well as the work it was in there for ! Though when I picked it up they made no mention of the result of their inspection ! I can only assume they found it to be ok ! 🤔

My car didn't have the tow pack on it when new but I'm just looking in to having it fitted as it looks like I will need to tow a car trailer with my cossie on the back to get it mapped.

So is this an issue that occurs with use or is it luck of the draw if the detachable ball fits securely? 2017 SVR. SVO Scafell grey Ebony interior

First time I went to fit mine it was so tight I couldn't even get it in, yet alone it being loose and fall out, had to actually ease it slightly with a file, so imagine it becomes loose over time and use.

Cheers

Hi,
Alfie you should have a single sheet supplement to add into your ops manual and a yellow plastic "label" that can be put on the tow bar (by rubber band Rolling Eyes ) if not check they did the recall?

Smart, understand it is when peeps leave the bar in the receiver and rust is a factor OR when it is Frequent use and it wears the receiver ( the same for all removables) occasional use Thumbs Up tow every week get a fixed Thumbs Up Porsche Cayenne 2022

Thanks for all the comments, I decided the risk was too great to continue with the detachable bar so I bought a Witter fixed bar for £132.00 and fitted it today myself, peace of mind at last when towing.
