Oh yes, they have their uses and are excellent in those situations. They are pretty niche now though. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

I completely agree with RRSTDv8 - Ihave both a Sport and a1996 Defender 90. My Sport will go more places on AT Tyres than my 90 will on MT’s, I just don’t try it out in the same conditions as the thought of damaging the RRS causes a painful sharp intake of breath and a rapid return to reality - but RRS/Discos of all models except DS, FFRR are hugely capable ofroad in conditions that would severely challenge a Defender and scare the pants off the Def owner. I have to be really awake to the “cross axle” situation in my 90 - it has no HDC, no ABS, no Traction Control, no heating worth speaking about but it does have very comfortable seats but any drive over 2 hours is torture to your right arm and hearing. Just one comment - I was told recently by a fleet manager for a major utility company that they are buying up old Defenders too and rebuilding them in their own workshops as nothing else that they have had since Defender production ceased can handle the heavy loads, rough terrain and abuse that utility company workers throw at their vehicles quite like the Defender can - sure it is crude, they break down BUT they are cheap and dead easy to repair and not one of the competition hand handle what the Defender does - not even a Toyota Land Cruiser (they don’t have the offroad ability of the Defender and they rust worse than a Defender’s chassis and every one of them wears out in 3-4 years and is useless after 150,000 miles as they have usually fallen to pieces long before. He says the most useless work vehicles that they have are the LC200/Nissan/Toyota etc pickups, no matter how many toys you fit they fall to bits in a year when treated like a Defender............ also their workforce loves their Defenders and look after them far better than they look after other makes because they know that if they don’t they will end up with JapCrap. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it 2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced 2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW |
