Disabling keyless entry- it works!!!!

Not sure if this works with our cars but there has been success over on the Disco forum, considering the number of cars being stolen recently using keyless signal boosting I thought it was worth a post over here Thumbs Up

Top tip, worked a treat on my MY16 AB. Bit of a shame as keyless entry is really convenient but better to keep it safe! MY19 RRS Autobiography Dynamic 3.0 sdv6, Carpathian Grey, black pan roof, black pack, black 22’s, black side steps, ebony/ebony interior

At the risk of exposing my stupidity, I thought that using keyless entry / exit was more secure than using the fob buttons, as no radio waves can be caught / cloned. Embarassed Embarassed Embarassed

How do you think the key talks to the car?

I never use the Fob to Lock or Unlock the car, as I thought I read some where that if you use the door handle buttons then no radio signal is transmitted, but could be completely wrong on that.

Cheers

Unless you physically put a key in the hole and turn it, the key has to be talking to the car with some kind of wireless radio magic.

Correct. However, I believe (and I may be wrong but I read it on this forum) when using the buttons on door handles the radio signal is very weak, much lower range. A thief would have to be standing right next to you to clone that one.

Like hafman, I am also unsure whether using the key fob buttons instead of the door handle buttons is a good idea when you’re, say, in a car park with someone waiting nearby to clone the signal. At home, I avoid leaving the keys close to the driveway to minimise the risk that keyless entry exposes us to. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

That maybe what I was thinking of.

I really wouldn't know how it all works, but you can lock/unlock the car from several meters away using the Fob, but to unlock or lock the car using the door handle buttons the Fob itself has to be within about a metre of the car otherwise the car just "beeps" at you, so on that basis I guess it is a weaker signal of sorts.

Cheers

My local dealer carried out THIS fix on mine. They made sure only two keys were programmed to the car, and also said the 'modification' mentioned in the link prevents the keyless relay attack.
