Wish I still had it, good examples now worth at least 20x what I paid for it in 1972

A Vauxhall Viva HB payed £50 was a none runner due to an engine fire, could of offered £20 which I’m sure they would of accepted but was only a fresh faced 16 year old. Cost me £10 for parts from the local scrap yard to get it running again. Had to strip and clean the carb every 30 miles or so because of rust/muck in the tank.

I had a mk4 Ford Cortina 1.3L, burgundy with a black vinyl roof R reg (the first time round ) I remember taking the rear number plate off and spraying the panel black to make it look like an up market version.

A yellow VW Polo - I was on a bus on the way to spend £300 on Fila & Ellesse clothing in Birmingham ( 80's fashion ). I saw the canary on a forecourt for £195 - jumped off the bus & paid the amount asked. It had no mot so my dads mate offered to weld it

Datsun Bluebird 1.8 GL Automatic. 3-speed auto box. Not a bad car really. Had some good features for the day such as a panel on the dash that would tell you when a bulb failed e.g. tail light, indicator etc. Had a twin choke Weber down draught carb which would either run well or pass the MoT but not both. I used to set it for the test and then reset it before driving home. Just a single 1/4 turn of an adjuster was all it took. Easy to work on - you could almost stand next to the engine in the bay. Starter motor took all of 10 minutes to remove, for example.
