steering wheel vibrating but tracking and alignment done

Hi Guys,

i have a Nov 2009 RRS HSE TDV8 and when i drive over 65 the steering wheel vibrates terribly. i took it to the place i bought it and they did the tracking and laser wheel alignment but when i drove it away it was still the same. Does anyone know if its anything more sinister? the wheels are 22 inch revere so not original, dont know if that could be a reason.

Your help is much appreciated.

Could be tyre pressures- I have had that fault. Also could be your tyres don’t match, ie tread patterns Noisy black one

sounds like you have a wheel or 2 out of balance.

Had this on my 22's, took the email to everyone balanced but found that the 2 fronts were slightly oval. Managed to get them squeezed back into shape and all's been fine since 2010 RRS, TDV8

Thanks guys for your reply. I had the tracking done but still the same. he did mention the wheels didn't sit right on the hub so maybe that's the problem. i will explore more.

Do you know exactly what he meant by this?

Could be the wheels need spigot rings fitted. Have a look at this:
https://www.spigotrings.com/index.php?route=common/home

OR, I'm sure in the past a couple of owners have had apparently inexplicable vibration and it turned out to be water inside the tyres.
Poorly maintained compressors can put water in your tyres when you top them up. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Get the wheel balancing checked like Andy says, quick and easy to eliminate. 2006 2.7 TDV6 HSE in Cairns Blue.

I had this on my 22 which came on the rrs 08 when I brought it. Two ended up having small cracks in them. I’ve since gone down to the 20s and the difference in ride comfort and noise is incredible.

I had this issue on my tdv8, it was warped brake discs. Does it vibrate worse under braking?

Ditch the 22s anyway, ride is bad enough on 20s!

I was amazed at the difference from 22 down to 20s. But if you says it’s bad enough on 20s then I think I maybe tempted to change again. When is the best size to be on?

You cant go much less than 20's as i assume you have brembo front breaks so i think some 19's fit but you need to check or you can use a 45 series tyre which will improve the ride a bit Thumbs Up
