My tailgate glass switch has stopped working took out the switch sprayed it with contact cleaner tested it with my meter and the switch is completing the circuit. So I'm at a loss now so what else could it be.

Stopped raining so went out and checked if there was power to the switch socket nothing, there are three rubber boots which I assume are for the wiring/screen washer so which one has the wires I want to check.

It is common to find the upper section release rubber has perished so while you are dismantling things it may be worth replacing yours, there is also a problem with condensation between the plastic inner and outers of the upper tailgate that runs down inside them and settles in the release switch. Both my 2.7 and 3.6 RRS’s suffered with the failure of the switch and both upper sections were replaced under warranty. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

I doubt you will see 12v at the switch.

You need to remove the rear spoiler. (3x 10mm plastic nuts and 2 big torx)
But urrr you need to open the glass bit for that

The middle tube has the wires to the glass bit. and release switch
The right side, the washer tube
The latch release is on the left tube

If you have an IID tool, you might be able to activate the latch, thus gain access to bolts and prove the actuator part is ok.

Otherwise I guess you might need to remove the C pillar trim inside (left side)
And maybe pull the headlining down at the middle (its secured in the middle, pull the metal bit down with a long screwdriver in 2 places)

and hunt for the appropriate wire, which won't be that easy.

Ah so an iid tool might help. I've ordered one from Dan he's running a group buy on the D3 forum so I'll wait for that. Cheers If it ain't broken down it soon will

I'll live with it for now, got another problem now the top fixing that holds the tailgate damper has sheared have a set of esi-outs so will tackle it tomorrow. I love landrovers I never get bored thanks for looking anyway Andy  If it ain't broken down it soon will

Well found out why the pivot bolt has sheared the damper had seized good job it didn't rip a hole in the body work. ordered a new pair to be safe plus they are handed  If it ain't broken down it soon will
