That was exactly my thought And the shut line on the kit puts the chrome/titanium strip above the rear lights rather than between them.

Im sure someone on here has done this using genuine parts and tailgate, try a search and it may come up 2003 BMW M5 - 5 Litres of V8 Optimax Slurping Goodness in Carbon Black

The late ones are a 1 piece tailgate (where as early 2, with opening glass), so doubt its possible to use LR parts.
