The technical notice that 1JBS posted a few pages earlier states that it was last modified 06 May 2014 , I'm hoping that if LR were aware of the issue back then in the assembly of the bearings they would of done something about it and thus later models like the 306hp would be okay ......Clutching at straws maybe as I have just purchased a MY16 .
Also when at my local Land rover independent where my disco 3 has the chassis off to repair engine after cam chain tensioner broke off I asked about reliability reputation of the RRS as I was thinking of changing our Q7 for one . I'm sure thinking back he said there was an issue with the early ones and the crankshafts but they have sorted them now and there is no major issues with them other than the usual sort of stuff with such a complex vehicle .
When I was being recovered with the disco I was chatting with the driver and said this is the downfall of Land rovers , they are great cars to own when working but they do breakdown a lot , he disagreed as says that while 4x4's have a higher call out proportionally the German ones seem to give more bother these days than the LR's . thinking about it he may be right, after all the reason I got out of our 65 plate Q7 so soon was because it had the engine rebuilt 3 times in the two years I owned it and I didn't want to run it outside of warranty . I hope I haven't just jumped out of the frying pan into the fire !

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport 3.0 TDV6 Autobiography Siberian Silver

The fact remains, people will still have a RR on their drive even knowing that it's unreliable. RR is a status symbol. Owning one makes owners feel very special. If you want reliability, buy a Land Cruiser, but you wont feel quite that special. 2012 Range Rover Sport Autobiography 3.0 SDV6

United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

People with deep pockets might, I've had one engine go fortunately Warranty wise contributed to its replacement and I put a LR supplied engine back in with 2 years warranty from them. When that 2 years is up its going, would I have another ? Not a chance how can you enjoy something that might cost you 20k the next time you start it up. Nanocom Evo

L319/320/405/494 all share the 3.0 engine

Things may be different for the Velar/D5...

I had a landcruiser from new with faulty heating control that took 3 months to resolve and dealer damaged dash but it towed far better than the rrs imho

I never bought another because of the problems and went on to buy 9 JLR vehicles afterwards

Unfortunately JLR are not what they were as this thread and others show as well as my experience towards the end Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

Not necessarily so.

I came back to this forum after an absence of a few years as I was contemplating buying a second hand Sport but I've been put off by this very thread as no matter how good it looks on my drive I want and need a car that starts and runs every day which is something that my last three BMW's have done.

On to plan B which is either a Porsche Panamera or Tesla S type or even perhaps a Maserati Quattroporte

Well its getting very interesting,,i hope someone from LR have seen this post as it could have lost them a lot more than the 20k it would have cost to fit a replacement engine in my old sport.

What's going on his LR are designing beautiful cars that sell themselves and the engineering is now lower priority along with customer service Sad Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW
