True TDV8HST, however during my expierence JLR took an oil monster of my car, before they authorized the dealer to swap the engine.

The dealership here in Lagos uses 5W40 917A Castrol oil and sometimes even 20W50 GTX! I always insisted on the right specs 5W30.

You do not want to become a victim of kicking the ball between dealership and JLR. RRS 3.0 SDV6 HSE Lux

Certainly will keep updated, got a call today from the European operations team, they say that the transporter has provisionally set the car to be with my local dealer by 31st of this month, but perhaps few days earlier.
Also called LRCR and opened a case and requested a loan car with similar spec.

Just an update, mine has landed in the UK, so should arrive at the local dealer next week to find out the damage.
I got a RRS HSE with 50 miles on the clock as my loan car, its MY17 so certainly the dash and ICE is lot faster then MY16, but noticed that the engine noise is lot more noticeable from inside the car, just wondering if the AB spec actually has more sound insulation as part of the AB trim.
If so another good reason for choosing AB, for those who trying to decide between HSE+ options vs AB when ordering.

My year old 18000 mile RRS engine gave up whilst on holiday in Cornwall. Crankshaft bearing went and the whole bottom end seized solid! Land Rover were not keen to tell me what had gone wrong, but I persisted until I got an answer. Bill was over £17,000 and the car will be gone before the end of its warranty!!!

what was the LR answer, while mine has not seized, German technician said its most probably Crankshaft or its bearings that has failed.

udash, it will interesting to get confirmation whether it's the cranshaft, because everyone at LR claims that this problem has been rectified from My12 onwards when they took over the production from Ford.

An Update.
Car arrived yesterday (without any bodywork damage as far as I can see) and dealer had a look and the crank shaft has broken in to two!
They have already started the process of ordering a new engine with all the components due to metal particle contamination.
I had a chat with the lead technician who was genuinely sorry for what happened, and said that it even worries him as he has the same engine in his D4.
He said that old 2.7L engine had this issue but it’s not common with the 3L, so could be due to manufacturing fault rather than inherent issue. Dealer said that they would work with LR to restore my faith in LR, so let’s see how that pans out.

Well, failures do happen.

The early 3.0s had major crank failure problems, but it showed up in places like the US, South Africa and Australia, not sure why. We didn't see it so much here. But when one of these engines lets go, it usually is the bottom end failing catastrophically, and LR isn't letting on why. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

Get some of the engine oil if you can and have it checked for diesel dilution and other evidence of poor lubrication.

It will cost £30 here. http://www.millersoils.co.uk/services/oil-analysis

The SCN is quite blunt, "Continued vehicle operation with high oil dilution WILL result in engine failure." And this is an "engine failure" if ever there was one. Obviously no-one can say that it was the cause in this unfortunate case and probably only the company will ever get to know precisely why this particular crankshaft failed. But if the car is in the affected group (which it seems to be) surely poor lubrication needs to be "eliminated from enquires", as George Gently might put it.

chucking in my twopenneth;

In my experience (30 years in the motor repair trade), oil dilution will result in damage to bearing surfaces. In the case of the bottom end, the big-ends would fail first, before the main bearings. Damage would also occur to cylinder bores and camshaft lobes.

A broken crank starts out as a cracked crank which gets much worse! Lubrication is not the cause. Metallurgy, such as incorrect heat treatment, might be.

Diluted lubrication is bad news all round. Cranks will fracture (particularly at rear main) if piston(s) pick-up and partially seize while other cylinders are still producing power.

The older Jaguar 6 cylinder mills could do this and the end float would allow the thrust bearings to drop out of position.
