Push button start

Hi all, can anyone shed any light on what happened an hour ago. Put the car in lowered mode and switched off. Tried to start it 30 mins later and the button turned on the ignition (radio worked) but no ignition to start (I remembered to put foot on brake!) Then however many times I pushed the button the radio wouldn't turn off and still no ignition to start. There was a quick message on the dash that said something like Settings 2. Anyway, after an hour I tried it again and it started with no warnings on dash so all seems back to normal. In between times I called the RAC so they are here later and I will ask for a diagnostics.
Any ideas Question

If the brake pedal felt stiff from the get go then my guess is you didn't press it hard enough. I'm sure you did but just saying in case you didn't. This has happened to me before and it was just a matter of pressing the brake hard enough to begin the full engine start sequence.

As above and also make sure the gear lever is properly seated in park 👍

Thanks both, here's what the RAC diagnostic said:

Comments Suspected Diagnosis – Attend vehicle with starting fault, push button not responding. code read with racscan and found faults in body control module with key transponder and ignition lock up, suspect module lock up glitch. cleared down trouble codes, engine starts and runs all ok. advise member if problem continues to refer to workshop.

Strange....whats the bit about 'body control module'? Anyway we're running again!

Mine occasionally comes up with 'key not found' despite the fact that the key is in the centre console as usual. It will normally start ok if I hold the fob under the steering column as per the handbook guide.I'm not sure if it was related to a low battery charge in the key fob. I'm in the shed, I'll be back in the real world in a minute.

Thanks russben tried that, yes. I reckon it was an electric glitch that we know these vehicles like to try our patience with! After an hour all was well so it seems it needs a little time to get over its strop!

Trying doing a hard reset!

Do a search for it as a title and it will pop up. Easy to do and it might fix it.
