United Kingdom 2008 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HST Java Black
HST year?

Quick question, I have been told that the HST factory built model only ran for one year which was 2008.

All other years have a HST kit put on them by the dealers and are not from the factory plant.

Can anyone confirm this or shed some more light on the HST model? I can't find anything conclusive on the net.

Yes that is true, the kit was not popular and even the dealers couldn't sell them so a lot ended up on e-bay and there was even a 2.7 Stormer Edition that was a base S model with the HST body kit on it to get rid of the stock so it is possible that you will even find DIY HSTs but only the factory cars had the e-diff as that couldn't be retro fitted by dealers or DIYers 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thanks Tim, I wanted to know if mine was a true HST, as I started to get worried it was not. On the logbook it does say HST,
How would I know if it has got an e-diff to be 100% sure, and are there other signs to look out for that indicates its a genuine HST?

2 ways, one easier than the other:
A) Go to LR Topix and type in your VIN to get the car's full spec
B) IIRC On the touch screen go to the 4x4 info screen and see if you have a diff lock icon between the rear wheels. On my e-diff equipped L494 RRS I have both a centre diff icon in the middle of the screen and another between the rear wheels and it works to great effect off-road

They are all "genuine" HST's just that some were built at the factory, a few were built by dealerships and a few in people's garages! As above only the factory built cars had the e-Diff 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

What options did the HST have that wasn't on the 'normal' models? --

It depends on whether or not the HST was a factory build or a dealer/DIY build - if a dealer or DIY build then it will have the options / spec of a standard S/SE/HSE/ Supercharged. For a dealer/DIY build it is only a bodykit with asymetric exhaust tailpipes. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Hi Tim, i went on to TOPIX and put in my car and it did not say it was a HST or in fact any other model S/SE/HSE Sad (pictured attached) - i also can't see it on my 4x4 monitor, the only place i can see it is on my log book... Confused

what do you think genuine factory or not?

put you vin in here

http://www.vindecoderz.com/EN/Land%20Rover...call/81058

then look in the long list of spec to see what diff was fitted

Regarding the screen info,
you need to be in Lo mode or adjust the big knob to see padlocks

rear axel locking diff

(in the last section)

You can also paste it in a file as text and search for things!

(mine, non locking states "Rear Axle Open Diff [027CB]")

I cannot enlarge the screen photo of your 4x4 screen but there is an icon between the rear wheels on the end of the prop shaft to the rear axle and the topix spec list does list Rear Axle Locking Differential, the other one is a Centre Locking differential. Is it possible to have a larger picture of the rear axle section of the 4x4 infor screen? I will have a look at the Factory HST brochure that I have and see how it is listed there in the morning. If you PM me an email address I will scan the 2008MY brochure pages with the spec and the dedicated HST brochure for the factory built cars - they are big files so please make sure that your mail box can accept large attachments. I would say that you have a factory built HST from the spec list - it does say Trim - HST. Another giveaway that it is a factory built one is that it should be fitted with 20" Stormer style wheels - only HST and 1st Edition 4.2 S/C V8's got those as factory standard fit and not as dealer fit optional extras. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
