In the last month we seem to have had a lot more flying bugs around in these parts than I can remember and it is not easy getting their remains off the windscreen after they have baked on for a couple of days. Recent heavy rain has removed most of the larger carcasses but the blood stains still remain. I am loathe to use a pressure washer on the windscreen as I have a new replacement screen, so has anyone any "patent" ideas how to easily remove the stains left on the outside of the glass? 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Not so much for the screen, but the bodywork.

I lay an old towel on the car and soak with water and leave for an hour or so.

I use halfords foaming glass cleaner, let it sit a little bit, then scrub with a microfibre, gets the worst off day to day.

When I want it properly clean, I snowfoam, leave it sit for 10mins, jet wash it, then use a washmit and regular car shampoo. Why dont you want to use a jetwash on a new screen? I dont see how it would damage it.

As you have a new screen (presumably without any pitting/scratches/stone chips), turtlewax glass polish is an option, its very effective on smooth screens, but if there is any imperfections you can end up with polish residue in the imperfections, so I cant use it on mine

Some companies do specialist bug removers like this.

No idea how good they as I don't need to use. I coat the windscreen with this product from the same company. It prevents bugs from sticking in the first place and ones that do stick just wash off easily, no matter how long they are left there. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I apply it a lot less frequently than I really should every 3 months maybe. It doesn't last that long, 6-8 weeks is probably the recommended interval and it definitely works for that period of time. Gtechniq have other, more durable products too which can potentially make it even easier to remove bugs but I am too lazy/busy to do all the prep that may be required. G5 is easy, just apply after a wash and buff away. I coat it twice in case it increases effectiveness and durability but more importantly to make sure no areas are missed.

I find it particularly useful for long journeys as the car isn't washed for many days (except the windscreen washer while driving) and the bug splatter stays on the windscreen for a while. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Actually this just reminds me ... when we drove to France last month, upon arrival I found my headlamps (which I leave on auto) were constantly on even in bright sunlight. I assumed the external light sensor was covered. Used the washer/wipers a bit aggressively and the lights turned off. I have just used Autoglym Active Insect Remover this morning just to enable a drive with full visability. Worked very well on both bodywork and windscreen following 3.5 day drive from Lagos in SW Portugal back home to Inverness. I wish I had had it before I embarked on our travels as it was a real nuisance on the journey and the washer fluid did little to help, merely smearing the detritus across the screen!

Car went in for its second service this morning, so we'll see what kind of mess their valeters make of it!

Products like G5 or RainX are worth it even just for water repellency from windscreen. I don't need to use my wipers when driving above 35/40 mph as the head wind drives up rain water in straight lines, efficiently clearing the view. When I do use the wipers at lower speeds, the operation is very smooth and smear-free. I am on my original set of wiper blades after 15k+ miles/nearly 21 months and never had to refill washer fluid (unless the dealer topped up on one of the several visits). Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top
