Bolts on rear prop, replace ?

I'm changing the rear prop on my RRS. Should I replace the bolts into the transfer box and rear diff at the same time, or it safe to re-use them ?

Thanks awfully !

Yep, should be okay to re-use.

Here's what the workshop manual says:
http://www.rrsport.co.uk/gallery/albums/us...eshaft.pdf 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

It does sound as though the flange with the 4 bolts, with a torque setting of 110 lbft may be using stretch bolts. It would be best to replace those, or at least ask if they are stretch bolts. The other end should be fine to re-use.

OK, thanks.

Well put the new one on this morning. Took about 2.5 hours, but a lot of that was me phaffing about putting the rear on the ramps, and slurping tea etc. You can get to the six bolts on the transfer box end quite easily, as there is plenty of room, but I had to shimmy the RRS forward a touch to get to one of the four bolts of the rear diff.

All rather satisfying, now that I've done it. Thumbs Up

Well done. Sounds like a good job.

Can I ask what led you to deciding to replace the shaft? Robin

It was in the local independent some time back for some other work, and he mentioned that the centre bearing was "on the way out". Since then I've had the classic low speed judder when applying power going up hill.

When I looked at the centre bearing, it was quite bad, so I'm surprised at how well it drove. Whistle
