ACC adaptive Cruise Control 2008 HST

Hi all,

Collected my 2008 RRS 3.6 HST yesterday and was told the ACC works however it doesn't seem to. It has the 3 switches on the left side of the wheel. It has the collision avoidance button and the ACC box in the bumper.

The dash works as I would expect it too but it does not pick up other cars and think it would continue to go into the back of others so I'm after any suggestions or things I need to check before phoning the guy up.

Many thanks
Nick

Might be worth looking to see if the radar gun is pointing the right way, it sits behind the box on the front bumper that has ACC written on it.

Also noticed fridge isn't working. Light not coming on tp say it's working, is their any way to tell if it's still working without LED coming on?. Any idea on on fuse number. Looking at it i think it may be 59?

I've not looked at it myself so can't give a precise answer, I'm not sure you can remove the cover to view the radar gun without removing the front bumper, it is however easy enough to remove the bumper.

That being said you may not need to remove the bumper to view the gun, you might be able to see it from underneath.

Not anywhere near the motor at the moment so not sure which fuse is for the fridge, I don't tend to use mine very often, but it's rare for an LED to stop working so the problem could be as simple as the fuse Thumbs Up

It'll probably be obvious once you remove the cover. I will be very surprised if it's facing the wrong way. Is the cruise control definitely coming on? 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

Cruise control works with no issues, comes on stays at speed etc etc. but will not pick up another car infront. going to try on a duel carrage way and a motorway later today to confirm.

How is the cover removed to see the radar?

No idea!
When you test, set the cruise distance as high as it goes and see if it will slow the car down if you get to the point where you're tailgating the car in front, it's not working Laughing 2006 Java Black HST Supercharged

thats the plan,

was just hoping it would be easy to tell if radar is pointing in right direction?

also if it wasnt would it not come up with an error?

I would get the car config checked, AFAIK there is no way of disabling the radar and if it was broken I would expect the cruise not to work. I suspect someone may have disabled the radar in the car config because it annoyed them.

Can you vary the cruise distance on the display using the top button?

So an update

Their is indeed a distance variation diagram but have driven it again.

So the forward distance control and ACC does work but only when uncomfortably close to another. Does anyone have ideas what could cause this?

I was thinking possibly radar set up/ position / configuration. Any ideas from anyone? And the ACC was set on the largest gap

As I said previously, check the radar gun. The bracket that holds it isn't very robust so there is every possibility that it slightly too high or too low. It could also be leaves or dirt has built up between the sensor and the cover.

There's more info on this thread:

Thanks for that, it's a very good link.

Does anyone actually know how to get to the radar? How does the cover come off to get to the radar? Is it a bumper off job?

Thanks Nick

Only a thought - but the ACC and forward alert appears to be speed sensitive. In other words - it will leave a bigger gap between you and the vehicle in front as the speed increases. So if you test it at low speed say with forward alert switched on the alert won't sound until you are "uncomfortably close" to the vehicle in front.

At higher speeds using ACC when the vehicle goes into 'follow mode' you should see a symbol appear in the speedo to indicate this condition. If the vehicle in front slows down your RRS will do the same. It will apply the brakes but you do indeed have to be pretty close AND travelling faster than the car in front for that to happen, and if you are paying attention you'll have braked manually long before the car does it for you. Well that's my experience anyway.

If someone suddenly switches lanes into yours leaving only a small gap between you (usually low spec BMW 1 series) but is travelling at the same speed as you or faster the RRS won't slow down or brake. It's a bit weird the first time that happens ! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

The problem is it only really picks cars up on the inside lane to me. Not in my lane. Several times putting brakes on while overtaking a lorry.

Really need to know how I can check the angle of the radar
