Well, does it have a fault?
How many people who make up forums, normally those with complaints, actually make up the percentage of new car buyers?

BMW v8 also had an issue, but that was much bigger issue and reluctantly they had to do a recall, when normally they just repair without telling the customer at service time.

The percentage of JLR engines in the warranty period must be small, else they too would have done a full recall. Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

I will say it again.
It's not JLRs engine. It's Fords. JLR have no warranty agreement with Ford for these engines, another reason why they are producing their own 4 and 6 cylinder straights.

Now if you are buying an engine with no warranty, you won't want to pay out for any more engines than you can possibly get away with.
That's life.
If you think JLR are any different any other manufacturer you are mistaken

Do you have a source to back up this non-warranty?

To make it clear, there IS a warranty between the purchaser and JLR, warranty dependent on the market.
Your new car is covered by the terms of the warranty, for example 3 years unlimited in the UK, or 5 years 50,000 miles in the USA. Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

I always thought the Lion Engine was a joint venture ref engine design, however manufactured by Ford.
It's worth having a read of the various PSA forums and Jag Forums as crank failure does not appear to be an issue. Could it be anything to do Land Rovers sump and oil pick up design, I doubt it, however the DPF impact on Engine oil, levels and quality is a concern. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

Just like they did with the K Series head gasket issue Whistle In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures

They never recalled the K series for HG issues, just revised the gasket and repaired those with issues Thumbs Up

Forums do not make up the majority of buyers.
Forums do have a high percentage of those that have an issue.
It doesn't mean that this is the overall norm. Just bought a RRS 06 MY HSE TDV6 136,000 miles, to be a second car to my bland, boring Mitsubishi Outlander 68 plate 2.0 petrol 4

Well.... seems as though I've started something!

Looking at the discovery forums too there seems to be a bit of both- Land Rover and owner paying. I think I will try and ask for a bit more from them

Many thanks

I was at the local stealer to chat about the RRS and the salesperson claims that they haven't seen a crank issue on the RRS L494, and none on the D4 after the MY12 update (which we know is not true).

According to him, the 8-speed gearbox + the increase in power results is less strain on the crank.

make of it what you will, but personally, I am not going to buy another SDV6 again. --

There was a similar thing with the TD5 engine. There was a lot of talk about the heads cracking. Quite a few on forums with the problem. I asked my indi. 2 of them were Trained by Land rover and decided to start their own business. They claimed to have only ever seen one between them, although they were aware that the problem existed. We know the problem exists but what is the percentage that fail to the ones actually driving around with no problems.

The issue is JLR's Censored poor attitude towards any goodwill gesture if it does go wrong...
