The switch from the upper tailgate is 5 minutes to get out, but you need the top hatch open. 2 ways, 1 you can either use a flat blade small screw driver and push it in and prise it out(there is spring tabs either side) but these can break. Or look underneath on the inside there's 8 t20 screws that you remove then the trim on the outside can be slid up and off, exposing the rear window beam and switch, from there it's a simple push out. |

ok ill give it a go, whats troubling me though is that its the whole tailgate not just the top window. ill have a look anyway.

Try doing a soft reset of the car (disconnect the battery leads and then touch them together, this purges all residual power in all the systems).
