If you are spending 50-65k then the velar,if your spending over 65k it has to be a sport.

The £50-£55k won't get you in to a 3.0d to get the 3.0d you are in RRS HSE territory at over £65k..

I thought I'd downsize as well. Embarassed I tested an Evoque, a Discovery Sport and an F-Pace and tried to convince myself that I really, really liked them. I slept on it and next day tested an RRS, did the negotiations and ordered it. Phew! Cool

I know what you mean. I tried the downsize or downgrade thing last time as well. Tried a smaller car (DS) and big but cheaper ones (X5 and Q7). Mrs. kept finding reasons not to go for any of those and to be honest I was a bit reluctant too so ended up with RRS no. 3 Thumbs Up Been pretty lucky in terms of reliability so it was easier to stick with it.

I also was tempted & very close to signing on the dotted line for a DS last year,,when I had my RRS1,I even parked mine next to a DS & the wife said the DS looks better,,,,then I went home & thought do I really want to go backwards & ended up buying my14 AB which is really nice & I think I'll keep it another year or so.

But you didn't drive it so are you talking purely aesthetically? I saw the current RRS at ASNY where it was revealed. Sat in it, touched the controls etc. to get a feel for quality - everything with the exception of a test drive. Didn't convince me to buy it ... driving it on and off road a few times did (although I should add that off road capability wasn't a priority).

I guess the question is: with a decently spec'd one costing close to a similarly spec'd Sport AB, how many would choose the RRV over RRS, especially if they have experienced the RRS? For a base model with a lesser engine, RRV wins hands down if the price difference is significant there.

No I did not drive it but did sit in it and played with the interior bits and bobs (screen, touch sensitive steering wheel etc) - build quality was right up there with a FF Autobiography if not better - I'm not exaggerating. It's being positioned below the RRS but it's far from that in reality.

Absolutely not! I don't think anyone implied that btw. DS doesn't even come close in either the exterior looks or interior quality & tech department. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

Couple of questions, rear heated seats and heated steering wheel i can't see these anyone know? tia.
Thanks for the video RRSman. He loved the quality but that was a £90k Velar so i would hope so. Bloody nice though. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.

They are both optional extras. When you choose a seat colour there is a drop down menu on the seat colour that allows you to choose the type of seat (heated front/cooled/rear/heated and cooled etc). The heated wheel is also an option £190 I think...Under the seat section you also have an option of having a full leather dash like an AB.

I think someone mentioned an AB will arrive at some point and I think that is true - there will be an Autobiography version probably once the launch edition ends in a year - that would then be the £80K plus option....IMHO

Agree Tim, £360 now to electrically tilt your steering wheel on the Velar Rolling Eyes

When you see how much they charge for a fire extinguisher and jump leads. £265 and £140 respectively. £265 for an extinguisher you can buy from Halfords for £20. £140 for jump leads!

Robbing Censored 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

So the AB Velar will probably be 80k plus,,so how does it sit between the evoque & the sport when a evoque AB is about 60k & a sport AB is just over 80k Confused Confused I know what I'd sooner have & it wouldn't be the Velar.

The interior quality does look impressive in this video. However, why would LR say it was below RRS if that wasn't the case? From a capability, driving position and comfort (driving position helps there too) perspective RRS appears superior to me. The tech/infotainment in RRV looks years ahead though. Personally, I prefer its looks over RRS too but that is subjective and doesn't count.

When they hit showrooms, I shall test drive one even if I don't have any intention to buy. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

The Velar is 5cm shorter than a RRS - it's a bit lower but not that much smaller - it's strange the way this was touted to be a smaller brother to the RRS...it's more a step brother that turned out nicer to look at IMHO Laughing

I have been told today that there is already a huge waiting list on these so they have done something right...once again... Bow down

Correct i believe the AB Velar when it arrives will cost more than the current RRSAB. SVR 2018 in Santorini Black.
