These Cars Are Fun Too

Had a good 10 mile blat late last night in my RRS - empty B & unclassified roads in deepest rural Wales. Twisty turns, steep hills, off-cambers, running water & probably some ice and all under the speed limit as its impossible to go any faster unless you are in a rally car. All whilst being followed by a spirited local in an Alfa.

I'm all for being sedate around town and enjoy the comfort that the RRS provides but every once in a while its good to let my thinning hair down and have a safe play in a very capable machine.

Your post reminds me when I used to work in Hove late 80s - used to spend most of time in my Astra GTE commuting from Newhaven to Brighton/Hove and driving around Hove for my job - mind numbingly boring sitting in traffic or reaching 30 mph if lucky but family lived in Scotland and I used to visit whenever I could - really enjoyed the empty windy roads there blowing the cobwebs out of the exhaust and testing it's limits Very Happy

The RRS is multi talented - excellent long distance cruiser and windy road fun - especially in Dynamic setting Twisted Evil Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

Still hoping for a S2 one day!

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Santorini Black

I was in Lancashire the other month and stretched the old girls legs on the A6 from Kendal to Shap. Amazing stretch of road, it was the main road to Carlisle and beyond once-upon-a-time, it's since been by-passed by the M6 and as such is largely abandoned. But as it was a main road the tarmac is of a good quality, the road is wide with plenty of room to maneuvre, big sweeping bends and undulating hills, all topped off with some pretty striking scenery.

Highly recommended road if you're in the area Thumbs Up

Replaced it with a Ford Orion ghia auto when swmbo was pregnant and I had to grow up Big Cry Wanted a Series 2 LR since childhood but previously owned MY16 Disco Sport HSE TD4 Auto, MY13 RR Sport Black Edition TDV6 Auto, MY10 RR Sport HSE TDV6 Auto, 2007 Freelander 1 Freestyle TD4 Soft Top, 2009 Freelander 2 GS TD4 Auto, 2007 Freelander 2 GS TD4, 2004 Disco 2 Metropolis Auto, 2002 Disco 2 GS, 2000 Freelander 1 SE TD4 SW

I had a modified Rover 820 fastback that used to eat Astra GTE's and the like for breakfast............... looked plain Jane outside but what a difference it made having a supercharger bolted to it. Boy racers couldn't believe it that they had problems keeping up with with a Rover 820! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Tim
Brings back a few memories, I ran a 820 Turbo Vitesse Sport, back in the days, circa 200 BHP. Could give moth things a run for their money. Thumbs Up Nightfire Red Thumbs Up
Also ran a 827 or a short while. In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Orkney Grey

Went to college with a couple of guys who had Astra GTE and Escort RS Turbo. They were quick in a straight line but my 309GTi was better in the corners. The 309 was no looker and most thought it just a vanilla hatchback. But the 1.9 Pug engine was a beauty and the chassis was excellent. Indeed the 309 was a better handling car than the 205 in many ways. I think my old 309GTi was the last car I had that had real steering feel. Sad that. Everything there after was over assisted, although the Suzuki Swift Sport came closest.

I love my RRS but sometimes I wish I still had that old 309... 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

3.5 Rover V8 powered LR 2A lightweight, white truck cab, white 8 spokes on Firestone SAT tyres. Now that thing sounded the biz but was scary on them tyres and it ate layshafts!

SRE I ran a Rover 200 Turbo Coupe for 9 months................ fast but awful and torquesteer like nothing on earth and the roof panels let more water into the car than the floor of my Defender does when deep wading............
Scariest car I have ever owned was TVR SEAC............. it never went out on a damp day, not even if there was a shower forecast the handling in the wet was so scary. Never managed to put it through a hedge sternfirst but it put me off powerful, very light RWD cars for good, once in the Main Street of our village on a damp surface I managed a totally unintentional 360 by just applying a tiny bit too much loud pedal. In the dry it was an amazing car. I got rid of it before I went to college because security in the college car park in the middle of the Gorbals in Glasgow almost guaranteed that it would be pinched. I replaced it with my Mum's caste off Fiesta 1300 SuperSport which was a magic wee motor until I drove it through a car sized hole in a bridge parapet on black ice one winter morning - neatly following the car in front through the hole but fortunately managing not to land on top of it - it was a new and supposedly great handling 4WD Audi Quattro Coupe, the rally car for the road one! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
