I have a 59 plate RR sport 3.0TDV6 60k miles , i have an intermittent starting issue, I follow the same start procedure i always follow, but on several occasions now the car will not start. the car is absolutely dead, its almost like a lockout Phase, then after 10-15 mins the car seems to come back to life , and then behaves itself until it decides to do it again, this has just started to happen having only owned the car for 8 months, but its happening more and more regularly now.
has anyone else come across this or could anyone offer any insight?

What do you mean by dead ? No ign lights on dash, or the starter doesn't engaged and turn the engine over, ticking noise and flickering dash lights or something else. We need more detailed info.
I would check the battery connections and earth points make sure all are clean and tight. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

central locking works, but the dash doesn't fully light up, no ticking that i can recall, but will listen out for it next time, engine doesn't turn over. i push the start button and nothing happens. i leave it for 10-15 mins and vehicle starts without a problem. I'm pretty sure battery is fine, but i guess its worth following the procedure you recommend

I seem to remember a chap having a similar issue, for him it was the earth strap from the starter to the body that was hanging off.

I had similar issue recently and it may have been the starter relay since after I cleaned it there's been no problem (yet!)

Obviously not quite the same model but likely to be similar?

Note that there is also a much more substantial relay (usually referred to as a solenoid) incorporated into the starter motor and these cause the same symptoms when they go bad. There are companies that sell parts to repair the solenoid. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE
