2005 rrs 1st to 2nd gear auto

Hi all. Just this morning as I was driving to work I had stopped at traffic lights and went to pull off, pulling off in 1st was ok but when it was time to change into 2nd it didn't. The revs went upto 4000 without a change of gear. I then pulled over for a sec. this happened a couple of times has anyone of you good buddies got the answer to my problem tia

Has the car got paddle shift & if so you didn't catch one of the paddles by mistake as a few have done this in the past.

This may sound crazy but it is well known that faulty brake light bulbs can cause that.

There was a lady recently had the same problem and it turned out to be a brake light bulb incorrectly fitted. God knows how ham fisted a mechanic has to be to put a bulb in wrongly! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

yeah check brake light bulbs
or brake pedal switch

If it's doing it alot you can of course use command shift, so knock the lever over to sport so its all ready

The other thing to check is whether your tyres are matched across the axles. ie if you have different type tyres, or a big difference in the wear between them, this can prevent the gearbox from up-shifting, as it thinks the car is cornering. (Though this usually occurs when you get tho 4th, not 1st or 2nd).
Anyhow, might be worth checking your tyres.

(There's a sticky on here about it.)
