2010 tdv6 vs tdv8

I'm still torn and still looking at rr sports and disco 4's.
I prefer the outside of the disco but prefer the inside of the rrs. I guess whichever good one I find first will be the decision maker!
But anyhow, I thought I saw a nice rrs 2010, what really drew me to it was the tan leather interior. Wow it looks good!!
But I then realised it was a 3.6 tdv8 not the usual 3.0 tdv6.

Can anyone tell me some differences??? I assume the v8 will sound better, be a tad quicker and sound nicer.
But what about reliability, known issues? If there looked after can they do better mileage as its at 84k and I plan on keeping it 5 years.

Thanks

Little performance difference between TDV8 and 3.0TDV6 to be honest. 3.0 will give you better economy.

Reliability is as much down to how they're looked after. They share everything except the engine itself. The TDV8 has dynamic anti roll bars as standard, the 3.0 might have these, not sure. Easy enough to check by looking under the driver's side cill for the control valve block and pipework.

The TDV8 has a reputation for killing turbos. This seems to happen where they aren't allowed to cool by idling for a minute. Service history is essential. Not just "LRFSH" but servicing done at the correct intervals.

My TDV8 is now at 145k miles. Had the turbos fail at about 70k but I bought it second hand so who knows how the first 45k miles were driven.

Both should give excellent service if looked after properly. Find a good indie and cultivate them. Avoid LR service bays. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

I'm good mates with someone who owns a garage who love their landrovers so I think they'll be servicing it for me,
Although with my other cars I generally service them using there equipment and genuine parts.

I don't think that UK TDV8 have DPF as standard at all. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

other than correct service intervals, is there anything you can do to protect the turbos? when it goes in for its service is there anything preventative they can do to stop them failing?

Personally wouldn't bother with regular service intervals as I think there to long. I change the oil and filter every 5k making sure BOTH sump plugs are removed. Always use gen oil filter and good quality oil, plus always let the engine tick over a minute or so after a run ,drivers the Mrs mad sometimes but if it helps protect the engine/turbos ..... 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Amen to all the above. Drive gently until fully warmed up and avoid habitual short runs. Use only premium fuel like Shell V_max for the cleaning additives that help keep the variable vanes from seizing and give it some long fast runs regularly and give it the full beans now and again.
My local indi say the turbos usually go at about 70k miles; mines on about 65k so I'm waiting to see what happens! 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

coming up to 62k.... Embarassed

Also back to OP, I test drove a 2010 TDV8 and a 2012 SDV6...I chose the TDV8... perf was the same but wanted an autobiography and a V8... you lose the newer nav, auto boot and the silver strip but you gain a V8, split tailgate and a proper gear stick.... I hate that rotary one... had a disco for a month really annoyed me

No it didn't. The 4.4 was introduced in L320 FFRR in 2010 if that helps. The reason RRS didn't get it was because it doesn't fit in the space. BTW that car is being listed in the blurb as a Range Rover Vogue SE and not an RRS, so maybe the wrong picture has been inserted. The RRS shown is also Siberian Silver I think and the blurb states that the car for sale is Blue, so that would be Buckingham Blue, which is very dark 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
