In-Control Remote

Has anyone had problems since the last app up date, I have not been able to use mine for the last two weeks.

Had worked OK since the car was new October 2015, now all I get is a message saying the 'device could not connect to the network'. I have a good phone signal and Wi-Fi, the phone has also been used from Manchester to the NW of Scotland in the last two weeks and no In-Control connection anywhere.

I can access my account via PC, its still current and my latest journeys can be viewed.

Tried uninstalling/reinstalling the app, still the same, have I missed something really simple? 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. Arrived 3rd September 2018

Tony,

Sorry to hear of your woes. I have the same software update on my phone but have not experienced any exceptional problems. From time to time, it doesn't register a journey I have made for maybe 36 hours, but eventually it always catches up. This includes journeys to some pretty remote places like Durness and Bettyhill, where it is a struggle to get a 3G phone signal let alone any satellite data. Could it be the phone? Have you updated the software on that recently? Could have introduced some kind of conflict.

Hope you get it sorted soon.

Merry Xmas.

Hi Jock,

First of all '3G?' you know where I live we are not going to get it any time soon! However the satellite link is usually OK.

Yes the phone software has updated recently and I am thinking that could be the problem, the phone is a good few years old and is due to be replaced as soon as the inflated Christmas prices have subsided. I have driven for 40 years with out In-Control so another few weeks won't hurt.

On another topic, have you driven M&D's F-Pace demonstrator yet? We borrowed the white SD3V6 Sport for 4 days at the end of October, all the kit we have on the RRS for a ticket price of around £16k less. I am sure when they have been out a while there will be good discounts, its a Jag after all, they don't hold value. Impressed with the F-Pace, you can certainly tell its half a tonne lighter than the RRS, goes very well, we also found the driving position and seat comfort much to our liking. Turn in to a corner did not seem as sharp and there was a lot of road/tyre noise but it was on the optional 22" wheels. Would not swap the RRS for an F-Pace yet, would be going backwards on refinement but come change time (expiry of RRS warrantee) it has to be a strong contender as we will need the saved £16k to pay our council tax bill!

Hi Tony,

Good to hear from you again! No real problems with In-Control other those mentioned.

Yes, I have had an afternoon (couldn't get it any longer - in great demand, so they say) with the F-Pace, and a serious contender for the RRS replacement in 2018 (if they have sorted the new infotainment system by then!). Having said that, it was working well when I tried the car out and is an improvement on the system in MY15 RRS that I currently own. You are correct about the weight saving. The car felt very agile and responsive, went like poop off a scoop!! I have a varied list of contenders for the 2018 replacement which vie for position at the top of the list depending on day of the week and wind direction! These are currently; another RRS (shock horror!), F-Pace, Volvo XC90 (but as Arnold is the only Volvo dealer in the North, that probably won't happen), Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV (depending on what happens with taxation on diesels, etc. etc.), Tesla Model X (if I'm feeling particularly green). Plenty of time to narrow the list and option 1 of the above is still a strong contender.

Another factor that may determine decision making is the JLR Dealer (MacRae & Dick, now Parks of Hamilton). There are some changes afoot in that organisation which may not bode to well for the customer. Some old time staff are not content from what I understand, and this could be a major factor in the final countdown.

Merry Christmas to you and yours.

Hi Jock,

I was wondering what was going to happen at M&D, as JLR dealers go the staff are very good although I have found sales on the J side a bit lacking.

12 months ago when the RRS died we had a new Mitsubishi Shogun on loan for 6 weeks, a bit of a tractor but all the kit our RRS has, far better line fit audio, 5 years warrantee and all for £37k, gets you under the new £40k 'envy tax' RFL. An alternative would be any Far East produced 4x4 again sub £40k, for the winter and shopping and a low mile used F Type for the summer. Some time back we borrowed an F Type for a day and it is highly addictive, I now need a weekly fix browsing Jaguar's website used F Type section. We only need two seats but we could not get a weeks shopping in the F Type boot, then there is getting up the drive in the winter. We tried to buy an F Type last year but it ended badly but owning one is still unfinished business.

As the technology stands at the moment an all electric option is not viable, we could not for example do the 250 mile round trip to Inverness on the battery. Visiting friends in middle England would take 3 days instead of 10 hours! The Jaguar I-Pace is aiming at a 300 mile range but in the real world with hills and cold weather I doubt it will be anywhere near that.

Have a safe and happy Christmas.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

Hi guys, it sounds like I have to have another test drive in an F Pace then as the one I drove was the 2.0ltr and I was not at all impressed - it wasn't long after launch and the car was full of rattles and the ICT wasn't working properly............. As most of my journeys are between 40 and 130 miles round trip I have a depost on a Tesla X but the lowest spec coming to the UK will make it more expensive than an RRS Autobiog so am interested in the I-Pace. Range is a worry for my longer journeys to London and back but now we have a direct train from Stirling to London in 5.5 hours and the return fare is less than the cost of fuel for the RRS I can see me taking the train more often. When I drive south now I do it with an overnight stop at Lancaster and have already inquired at the hotel and they are about to install 2 charging points in their car park so I reckon with the run from Stirling to Lancaster then Lancaster to London I could do it in no longer time than I do it currently. I Pace is also AWD.
Tony, I appreciate it won't give "purist" RWD drive sensations but I believe the F Type AWD is well up to handling our winter weather, even better on Winter tyres. Price new, depreciation and tiny boot (even in the coupe) are what has put me off them though - approved used low miles is more attractive proposition but I have to take the boot size into account these days.

Merry Xmas and Happy New Year to you both - BTW I'm looking at doing the NC500 next spring possibly late April. While the RRS will be ideal for that run, an F Type AWD would be even better! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Hi Tim,

You should try the F Pace SD3.0 Lt, I don't like JLR's new 2lt diesel, had a DS for a morning and hated it (that's the DS and the engine) I would imagine it struggles to haul along the Jag's baulk.

The F Pace we drove had the conventional Evoque style instruments which seemed a step backwards from the RRS, the centre screen sat nav etc. was newer than our MY16 RRS and worked OK. The car was an early car registered July, no rattles detected in 4 days use and I was paying particular attention because I hate cars that rattle. Only problem was road/tyre noise although not as bad as in the Evoque. After the air suspension on the RRS everything else seems noisy.

I would seriously consider an AWD F Type just to reduce the risk of becoming intimate with the scenery, used they seem to drop the £5k premium over the RWD version fairly quickly. Still does not solve the boot problem as we would go for the open top, as I already have tinitus I could leave the 'Loud Button' permanently on. It would have to be a second car and look for one that would be a keeper, first car could even be a Mitsi PHEV.

NC500 is a strong possibility next year although this year I was told it was clogged by motorhome driving zombies. 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. Arrived 3rd September 2018

Tim/Tony,

I did not do the complete NC500 this year, although have done all of the route over the years (before being popularised as the NC500). This year was particularly bad for exactly the reason you mention. Single track roads generally are not appropriate for caravans, but on parts of this route are positively dangerous. It seems that many folk think they have to follow the route religiously or they'll fall off the edge of the earth, or some such. They can get on and come off the designated NC500 route at several points and would make the experience far more positive for everyone. It is becoming so popular now, there is a move by many locals to have all the advertising and promotion of it taken down as it is turning parts of rural Scotland into a car park! There's no pleasing some folk! They want the tourist dollars, but not the tourists. Sound like BREXIT????

If you guys are planning the trip and want a guide, let me know.
