Recommended depth is 700mm which is about the top rim of the wheel. So long as you keep the air intake in the wing above water you should be fine. The engine ECU is higher than the air inlet and is at the back of the engine bay in the battery box. It's in an enclosure that would keep splashes out. Realistically, you probably don't want to be going in to water deeper than wheel centre unless you know the depth is consistent e.g. a road ford you know to be consistent. You can fit a raised intake but you need to modify it to make it waterproof. It doesn't stop other stuff getting wet but it will protect the engine from hydro-locking. Go too deep and the vehicle will float. Then you're in a potential world of pain. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |

That's 2ft/600mm at the start and I'm not sure it gets much deeper than that. The bow wave climbs the nose a few times but in the mirror it never looks that high on the rear wheel. He mentions 3ft deep at the beginning but that would be too much for a RRS on a long wade like that I think. I've been through 600mm in the wading trenches at Eastnor and it looked about the same as that. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders 2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed |
