United Kingdom 2007 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black
My first Sport with Steering wandering on poor roads.

Any ideas , Ive got a slight wandering from the steering on my 07.
Ive had tracking done and put 38 psi in the tyres.
The MOT 3 weeks ago was a pass so i presume no worn bushes / ball joints etc
It only seams to happen on badly rutted roads. Ie over the tops kind of roads.
Its almost like very light steering.

The only thing i can see is the inside edges of the tyres are worn alot more than the rest due to wheels towing out which is now sorted on the front.

Its fine on the Motorway.

Can the tyre wear do this?

Thanks. Jonny

Worn and/or unevenly worn front tyres can most definitely make the car feel unstable and nervous especially on badly rutted roads and worse in the wet when tramlining can be severe. The transformation when new tyres are fitted can be 'night and day'.

When you say the tracking was adjusted - do you mean a full four wheel alignment check or just the front wheels? These cars need all 4 wheels aligned and there are few places that can do it properly. If the rears are out of specification then expect that to contribute to poor stability.

There is a noticeable difference between bushes and joints that are newly replaced and those that are good enough to pass the MOT test but have some signs of wear. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Hi, and welcome.

any chance they are Pirelli scorpians as well Whistle as ^ uneven worn tyres and the lower the tread depth the worse it seems to be.

If you can try another set of wheels & tyres, to confirm, friend bought a D3 we put my winter set on and transformed the ride, he bought another set of wheels and tyres and all is good

Thumbs Up

38psi in the fronts might be giving a light feel to the steering.

What size wheels/tyres are you running? 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The fronts are definately worn on the inner edges. I imagine its forcing it to camber and catch the ruts.

Its not excessive wandering but it can be un nerving.

It was just front alignment the rear is slightly out on the tow. I will try to attach the printout it may not upload.
As for bushes ive not been under my self but i rebuilt my 90 from the ground up so i do have a idea . Only issue is we only have a two poster at home so its difficult to rive off stuff with a bar.

The tyres are 19s on the correct tyre . I think they are scorpians on the front yes.

I never got the rear done as i was not confident enough in the Garage.
You can soon mess a fully independant car up if you get it wrong.

I reckon its a combination of too high pressure and wear. I think 38 really is high. My scorpions were horrible on rutted tarmac. Get some new ones fitted and all will be well i think Thumbs Up

I'll drop them down a bit its free to try . I need new ones anyway so no real harm in ordering a pair. I just wanted 20's next with cooper Ltz tyres for a meaty look.

Coopers are what I have after years of Scorpions. A great looking tyre in 275/45/20 form. The extra sidewall over and above the Scorpion 40's makes a much better ride. Great off road on the occasional muddy field. They give a slightly higher road noise but then again look at the tread pattern and that's no surprise. Not an issue though Thumbs Up
