Range rover sport crank shaft info

Hi guys this is my first post on here . I bought a RRS 2.7 13 months ago I changed the oil a month after I bought it. 12 months later the crank shaft has gone well at least I think it's that as it making a loud banging noise from the crank i took it back to the garage where I bought it and as it's 1 month out of guarantee they don't want to know at first they said I used the wrong oil then they said I didn't change the oil its only done 8000 km since I changed the oil. I know I have to take the body off the chassis to get to the engine but what do you think is better to re ground the crank and get bigger shells or buy a complete engine and fit that I'm in tenerife so I would have to get one sent over here. Thanks for any help in adcanc
Cheers charlie

If you're willing to fit a new engine why not take the current engine out and rebuild it ?

Cheaper than a new engine and you know it's right.

Hi socast thanks for yr reply yeah I was thinking that. Do you know If they suffer from crank shaft problems? I just don't understand how it can go as easy as that I know I used the right oil maybe the oil pump failed but didn't get no warning ie the oil light coming on?

I'm no expert on the 2.7, but as far as I know their cranks aren't a known weakness. Turbos and egr valves are a bit of a weak spot and I've seen a few issues with camshafts but no cranks.

Disco Mikey is an authority on these engines.

I think there is an issue with plain bearings moving because of the design - there is no tab to prevent them doing so, they move and that blocks the oil way resulting in "bang!". 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Socast - Sorry - bad information - as RRSTDV8 has mentioned the 2.7 and to a lesser extent the 3.0s have a known and major issue of crank failures caused by the bigend? bearings moving and causing the crank to fail. Well known, there is even a Landrover communiqué on the topic somewhere on this forum.

Actually on the D3 forum http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic111733.html

Hay thanks for the info so what's stopping it happening again once you re ground the crank? and do the mountains of works that's needed wow can't believe the design fault in this day and age. I'll have a look for the thread is there any modifications to stop it happening again get thanks

My mistake, but in my defence I did say I'm no expert on the 2.7 haha.
