Some one should come up with what alternative replacement pads can be used. No big deal to change your own if you can find after market pads. I am assuming that the price was for pads only , I know with my previous vehicle a change was pad and discs. Also are you talking miles or K's? As you are still for now in Europe I suggest buying alternative even direct from Brembo , and fitting yourself or using a brake shop. Rears may require a IID Tool if like the Audi rear electric hand brake set up. Also wondering if pad wear light has come on , dealers often say pads need replacing before the light comes on , if the light has not come on I'd leave until it does , you will still have many miles after the light to sort new pads at a reasonable price. I have purchased a set of Hawk Performance LTS pads to go on the front and back. Can't stand the amount of brake dust on the wheels after one month of ownership, washing once a week to keep respectable. Previously ran Hawk ceramic pads on my Performance VW Golf and was impressed by amount of dust reduction. The LTS have the same low dust rating but better braking rating than the ceramic pads, so high expectations as I tow a 2.6 caravan occasionally. I am away from home at the moment, returning on the weekend, and the new pads will be fitted on Monday. Will post the pad codes once confirmed they are the correct ones for the L494. Hi Brick,,please let me know how you get on with the new pads as I'm also getting loads of brake pad dust on my wheels & I was wondering which pads were best for less dust.

Brick did you fit the pads yourself? I used to do my R50 disc and pads , not such a big job . Interested if you did the job what sort of time and effort was required. I am interested in the rears with the electric brake, I know for the SQ5 which has electric hand brake you need the software to fit. According to service manual you can use the following steps to wind the rear callipers to install new pads.

Thanks for that response udash, I have not done the rears as yet. My understanding, and I stand to be corrected, is that the process is meant to be similar to the D3/D4 for the rears. So the brake bible should be a great reference.

Replacing the fronts I always push the Pistons back in with the pad in situ, that way it pushes them both in together.

Can I ask another question from the learned few ? Is the brake pad wear indicator a component that needs replacing with the pads? My Touareg had a wear indicator that wore through a circuit so you needed pads and the wear indicator to renew the pads. M16 SVD8 ,4.4 HSE with a few extras, Sold R50 , Wife SQ5 , BMW R1200GSW. |
