Steering wheel conrols malfunctions

2011 MY
I have recently experienced some odd things happening with the steering wheel controls. For instance. The voice command button when pressed will call my phone out to the last number called, the end call button dose nothing at all. Also the stereo controls go wrong. Pressing volume up will change the audio mode. Next track and pervious track will replay the same track. When this is happening I dear not use the cruse control. Usually the next time I drive the car everything is back to normal then after a while it goes wrong again.

Any ideas what is going on and how to prevent it.

Hi

Could be issue with the wiring harness inside the steering wheel, I think there are a few post's on here with similar issues not overly expensive and quite easy to change. You do need to remove airbag to replace it though.

Not certain that is your problem just a suggestion.

Cheers
Col

Hi C C, did you figure out what is causing this?
I have the same problem, intermittently. Volume up changes mode, volume down gives me voice command.
Strangely, cruise control seems unaffected apart from the distance control for the ACC, pressing the button has no effect.
It's only occasional and seems to be after I've parked in the sun for a little while.
Perhaps the heat is causin the steering wheel to warp a little?

The car is still under warranty from the dealer I bought it from Jason. So I will talk to them first then get it looked at locally.
It did it again today. Was Ok at first but after a while things went out again.

I'll update the forum of the outcome.

After two trips to my local Indi they could not find any fault. However they carried out a software update to the 'Infotanmant Module'. Two days on and the problem has not manifested it's self. So perhaps that has cured to issue.

Timme will tell.

I replied too soon. The controls have returned back to being unpredictable. One moment working correctly. The next pressing the increase volume will make to audio change from radio to CD or USB player. Hitting the voice control tab will make the phone call someone.
Then within a sort while it will behave normally again.

Sounds very like a faulty wiring loom behind the airbag Whistle

You could be right Mikey. I have suspicions myself. However the guys at my local Indi said it checked out ok. Certainly no faults reported so I could not get it fixed under the warranty. Sad

I'll live with it for now. Then get it looked at again at MOT time or when something breaks (which ever happens soonest Confused .

Apologies for not updating the thread. Directly after having the audio software updated I noticed no difference. However after a few weeks the problem has gone away and everything is working as it should.
Make of that what you will. But its probably worth getting the layered update installed anyway.

Many thanks for the update, just spoke to my Land Rover main dealer and apparently diagnostics and wiring are not covered by the warranty Rolling Eyes so looks like a trip to my independant guy for an update. Thumbs Up
