Tracker (Thatcham)

Advice needed on a tracker,I'm looking at the Thatcham site & their is a few different ones starting from around £250 upto £650 plus subscription.

I've Tracker Cat 5+ systems in my cars. They are very good indeed, the alarm centre is excellent.

Their sales department, however, is appalling in my experience.

That was the one I got. Good quick service, after care also very good.

No problems and many local agents that do the work.

Hi Andy,
I have used these to have my Range Rover Trackstar Tracker supplied and fitted, the only one approved by JLR, but if you use LR to supply and fit it costs nearly double the price, they even charge £100 extra for each year tracking, what a rip off.
Using these people you ask about, they come to your home or work, fit it properly hidden away, refit everything taken off, activate, and you are protected there and then. Cannot fault the service, price or quality. You can see where your car is at anytime, see your last dozen or so journeys, extremely accurate , gives you postcodes, view journey on map, where you slowed went faster etc, and the mileage traveled.
As the RRS is the most stolen car, and many insurance companies want a tracker fitted before they will insure you, you can't go wrong. Recovery time from alert can be as little as 40 minutes, and returned straight to you. John

Thanks for the reply John,which trackstar did you go with as their is A few different models & im wanting one like the one you mentioned were I can also track & monitor from my iPhone.its which one to choose now as the Tracker 5 plus also has uhf so can be tracked in containers which the one you mention hasn't got this function

Hi Andy, sorry for delay in replying. Sorry for any confusion, I had the Cat 6 one first and then upgraded to the Cat 5 http://www.trackerfit.co.uk/trackstar-cat-5.html This you can monitor by downloading their software App for either or both iPad 3+ / iPhone (higher than 5). Hope that helps. If you have any queries not answered, insure that you ask the supplier and fitter before actual fitting, as will then become part of any business etc,

I know it works quickly because my one of my (stupid) brothers took it for a test drive after we did some work on it, we had turned car off and he then restarted with me at car side, but he didn't have the fob on him, as the engine was already running. When he stopped the car at some shops, and pressed the stop button, he couldn't then restart it obviously, as I had the fob still . I got a phone call asking if I was moving my car etc, they told me where it was, but I reported the instance and that I would pick up. Went in other car, with Fobs do an brother could drive back.
I was told that you should report your car if you know it has been taken/moved without permission, but this proves that it can still be tracked if moved without a key fob. John

Thanks again John,I think I'm going to go with the Tracker cat 5 plus,it works the same as yours but as the added bonus of uhf so can also be tracked in containers & underground car parks.

An excellent choice in my view and wish it was around at my purchase (it was in extreme short supply then).
As long as journey isn't short, I'm hoping the other systems will help Police find car.
Backup battery lasts for up to 3 months or 6 months on larger extra pack I believe. So it will be picked up in most of Europe when it's unloaded, as the trackers do cover most areas of Countries.
Best of luck with your installation, and obviously I hope you never require to have to use it to find your car.
Don't forget to inform your insurance company, as is a modification, but with most companies it gives you a discount off your annual premium. Other companies require you to have a tracker or they won't insure you. John

Let the installer know if you have solar glass/HUD as it influences where the satellite aerial can go.
