Factory Autobiography Kit?

Hello Folks

I'm new to the forum but a long time Defender and Range Rover owner, now I plan to buy a Range Rover Sport.

I've found plenty of existing posts on people fitting autobiography kits to their RRS, but I'd like to ask if it was ever an option to fit one to an HSE when ordering new - I would doubt so very much. I have found a nice looking 2013 L320 HSE with Autobiography kit at an independent dealer and although the salesman admitted to not being an expert on the RRS, he believed it was a factory fitted option. I won't say it will definately put me off an otherwise nice car, but I would like to know exactly what I am looking at.

Also, when did the start/stop get introduced as I have aa 2014 XF and was told by Jaguar it can't be turned off other than each time starting, and I assume Land Rover will be the same? I do not like it.

Thanks for any help given, and hopefully through time I will be able to contribute myself.

Surely from new you would order the Autobiography, not the HSE, as the cost difference to upgrade I would think would be more expensive.
I'm sure someone with more knowledge will be along soon, but in catalogues I have, it's not offered as an upgrade at time of purchase. John

Thanks John,

Thinking of it that way, it doesn't make sense. I was thinking that Land Rover is unlikely to discourage people paying the full Autobiography price by getting it's looks anyway with a kit.

I see you have a MY2012, does it have the stop/start engine? I'm just wondering how far back I can go look before I can get the 8 speed gearbox without the pesky stop/start, if at all?

Yes you could order it for a SE/HSE from L/R as a Exterior Design Pack cost about 3k, whether it was fitted at the Factory or a Dealer Fit I'm not sure.

The RRS1 has Push Button Stop/Start but not the system which stops and starts engine when in park or neutral whatever, if that is what you are referring to.

Cheers
Col

Autobiography Exterior pack, does that mean all the other Internal etc additions for the Autobiography model, isn't included Col? So still not getting a "full" Autobiography specification, which wouldn't be much of a increase in price secondhand I presume, as most extras don't seem to be allowed for, more when trading in. Sad John

Hi John,

It is just called a Exterior Design Pack not Autobiography and is only the External parts. I do have a copy of the brochure somewhere.

Cheers

Thanks folks,

I can't tell any difference on the outside to an autobiography other than standard HSE badge on the rear, but it is missing the inside footwell strip. On the ones I've looked at online, I didn't notice any other differences, even the seats were the same. There will always be add-on differences between any cars (rear tv's, coolbox etc.) but I didn't see anything on about 4 autobiography's (unless HSE's being sold as AB)

For the stop/start, I've done a bit of digging and found that removing the earth lead from second battery takes care of that - will be done on my XF asap!

Edit - Col, the 2013 RRS1 is advertised as stop/start (yes the system which shuts the engine when stopped and brakes pressed with decent pressure), but is this also a mistake? Did it only het introduced with the RRS2?

I can only base a genuine A/B model based on my own, Externally the Front and Rear bumpers are different, as are the Rear Spoiler, Exhaust Tail Trims, Front Grill and Side Vents also the Door Handles and Side Mouldings are Colour Coded all though these could be painted on a HSE.

Internally the Seats are different and have Autobiography Sport embossed in the Headrest, also has A/B Sport on the Door Trim Panels as well as the Door Tread Plates. There are a few other bits as well. I think generally the A/B will have Two Tone Interior Trim.

The later RRS1 have Stop/Start Button but not the same System as the RRS2 and does not have a Second/Auxiliary battery.

Cheers

The Stop/Start button on later RRS1 models 2011 up to 2013, keyless models, when the new model came out is purely a button to Start and Stop the ignition, there is no shut off at lights or when stationary, in neutral or park. Hope that helps.
The AB model should have different interior/exterior to the HSE. Any link or photo of the said vehicle?

Edit: sorry had to go away, and noticed I hadn't hit enter on my return. Embarassed John

The RRS HSE with autobiography kit I was asking about - http://www.m-lionmotorgroup.co.uk/used-car...5103809819

But these are also of interest, they look like full autobiography's

http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/adv...mp;adPos=4

http://www.vogue4x4.com/cars/landrover/ran...dv6/85322/

While I don't want a burnt out 300K miles car, I'm happy with high 5 figure mileage as I'll only do about 4/5000 miles a year. And my options have been cut by 90% due to my wife's refusal to accept cream/beige etc. interior - I won't tell you what she shouted at me when I told her she'd get a say once she get's a job...

Any pointers is much appreciated

The first of the other two AB models is pre 2011 as it still has stick gear change indicating 6 speed gearbox not the newer and more efficient 8 speed version. Only has 19" wheels, after facelift (2011) they were bigger, no flapper gear change. Many other differences, so you are getting an older car for not much less money. The tailgate won't be the newer one piece aluminium lightweight one.
You loose a couple of mpg as well on the older model. It does say it's got rear seat entertainment, but would prefer to see newer version at that price even if without it fitted.
the second example the Grey 2012 AB model out of the three is easily the best specification and being the facelift has the better economy if this worries anyone. Laughing
Better examples out there to be had. Smile Also have a look at LR main dealers, they will come with 24 month warranty, 2 year MOT guarantee, 2 year roadside assist, and generally a half day 4x4 experience day. A small increase in price, but compared to offerings of listed at least you have two years of worry free driving, just a thought. Wink John

The Rear Entertainment System is a After Market fit so could get that fitted to any vehicle for 1- 1.5k.

The HSE Black Edition looks a well spec. car, has Dual View as well for what it's worth. Externally doesn't look any different to my A/B.

Cheers
