Tried to move my 2005 S/C Sport this morning and just a single click from the starter motor on turning the key, did it a couple of days ago but started after a few tries. I have put a battery charger on it and it seems charged.

I must agree first thing to check properly is the battery, I have had similar on a previous car.

Thanks for the advice I left it on charge overnight and after about 20 clicks it turned over for about 2 seconds but did not start and after another 5 attempts started normally.

I had the same symptoms on my TDV6 following about two years of difficult starting when cold. Battery was fine, I just got in one day and was greeted with a click instead of the starter firing.

Finally got round to sorting my starter motor issues today, managed to eventually wrestle the starter motor away from the car. Top bolt is a little tricky to get on, but got a short 3/8 socket on it after removing the heat shields. Stripped down the solenoid and the plunger was badly pitted as was both contacts. Opened up my EBay kit to find it had the wrong parts so cleaned up the old ones with a file, fitted the new plunger and gave it a test on the floor with a jump pack and all seemed fine. Refitted and all is good, quite surprised that nothing was seized, sheared or even a tight thread. Not bad for an 11 year old Land Rover.
