HELP: Where is the battery...?

might sound a weird question ... But I can't find the battery, or the main battery in case of multiple batteries! Where is the battery?

Can't find it in the bonnet, nor under the spare wheel ... Which should be the obvious first places to look at. Nor can I find it any references to the battery on the manual, or online ...

My RRS L494 is the latest MY 2016, built in May 2016, delivered last week, and I want to hardwire the battery in order to get one of the cigar lighters live, so that I can just plug in the Ctek battery charger/maintainer, or just get my devices charges even if the car is turned on ...

Or, alternatively, does anyone know if there is already a live cigar lighter?

Thank you

Far easier to connect the CTEK to the two power terminals on the offside of the engine.

Thanks Jock.

Jan

ps. have checked my profile, and yes you are right it does not say L494, but it only allows me to choose the RRS MY 2013 ... Can't figure out how to get that changed.

The only way to change that is to do one or all of the following:

Use the sister site http://www.RRSPORT2.com website (where us L494 owners are supposed to reside)! Unfortunately this is under utilised. Maybe a handful of posts per month!

Complain to Martin or one of the mods on this site.

Best of luck with either or both remedies!

I am the under used moderator of RRS2 forums (and the BabyRR/ Evoque forum) and you cannot even select a model/ colour avatar in the profile settings there so just use what you have like I do here................... Best thing to do is to take a low res photo of your car and in your profile here upload it as an avatar, has to be low res as the file size is restricted.

FYI the Land Rover branded Ctek battery conditioner that I had on my Evoques and is similar to the RRS2 version, had a remote socket hidden behind the front grille that I could plug a remote cable from the charger into when I wanted to use it so I didn't risk chopping the cable in the bonnet slam or tailgate seal. I used to use a £10 Maplin solar panel trickle charger to keep my car batteries topped up but since 2011 LR has not seen fit to leave a socket live when the ignition is in the off position. I suspect because there have been so many battery drain problems with all their cars it is so you cannot flatten the battery by leaving a charger accidentally plugged in when the car isn't in use. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Thank you Tim.
Tried to upload a pic ... But even the smallest and lowest resolution pic does not upload. Maybe it's my iPh. But I'll leave just as it is ...

The advent of the power management module, which turns things off when not required, precludes the use of fag-lighter sockets and stuff. I'm not sure you can charge the main battery by connecting the charger to the small battery in the boot as I believe there is a switch that isolates the two when the charge on the small battery is full.

I use the croc clips on the terminals (the positive is under a rectangular cover with a '+' marked on, the chassis is a post just in front of this.

Thanks Phil. Thumbs Up

All sorted. By the way, I placed it exactly as yours, without seeing your pic: the bonnet closes easily and all is safe.

BTW do you know if those terminals connect directly to the battery, or do they go through the whole circuit, with some power losses on the way to the battery?

I don't know, but I imagine they go direct to the main battery (which may be hidden under the fuse box on the nearside bulkhead).

Thanks Phil. I think the main battery is just under the spare wheel in the trunk ... Am not 100% sure but have noticed some wiring there in the back under the wheel. Don't think there is sufficient space near the engine for an AGM Battery. And think that it is now common sense to keep the battery away from the heated zone of the engine ... My BMW X6 and previous X5 had it in the trunk.

Yes, you're correct. Under the floor where the spare wheel would be if you have one.
