AdBlue top-up - email from JLR

Just had an email from JLR confirming that top-up on the Adblue between services is included in the service plan.

"If you have a Land Rover service plan, complimentary AdBlueŽ top-ups at an Approved Service Centre are included between service intervals."

Not sure if this is covered elsewhere - did a quick search and didn't spot but certainly thought it was worth mentioning as I wasn't aware that this was actually included and free Smile Colin

Current - 68 plate RRS2 HSE in Corris Grey

I took the email as an indication they had had too many people calling landrover assist when it wouldn't start after running down to zero, some of the mail was badly worded, but it certainly made it clear not to let it run out!!

This has been causing some confusion on discosportforum with some owners being charged for top ups between services

LR appear to be sending out confirmation to owners and it is on their website too

So what happened to the "Ad Blue tankage is sufficient to last between services" claim? Looks like all this high tech stuff is beyond Land Rover's technical guys, you never hear of AdBlue being a problem for VW/Audi/BMW/Ford/Merc et al, but consumption and refills are a mess with Land Rover. DPF's had the same lack of development for LR when they were introduced................ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

I knew the AdBlue top ups were free with a service plan. So does my dealer.

I also now know that my car needs a top up before 10k miles. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.

It's solution of urea (think cat's p**s) that is converted to ammonia gas in the hot exhaust that then reduces NOx to nitrogen gas.

What is AdBlue and how does AdBlue work?

AdBlue is a colourless, non-toxic liquid made of urea and water, which is injected into the exhaust gases of newer diesel-engined cars that use SCR technology to meet Euro 6 emissions targets. When this occurs, the urea and water solution breaks down mono-nitrogen oxides (harmful gases found in the exhaust fumes of diesel cars) into nitrogen and oxygen, which are harmless and occur naturally in the environment. Bus and lorry drivers have long been familiar with the need to top their vehicles up with AdBlue, so it's an effective and proven technology.
