wrong fuel in

hi all , can someone help me with a problem for a RRS TDV6 2006 plate. Petrol was put in instead of diesel. A local garage got it running again - but it is now giving out white smoke, running really rough and the garage has said that it is showing an injector fault. Has anyone had a similar problem and how did they rectify it. Many thanks.

I haven't time to read them but remember it causes problems with seals if you misfuel either diesel or petrol but can't remember which sorry Confused

The seal problem is with diesels that are misfuelled with petrol, the benzine might dissolve them...........

Did you run the engine at all? If no petrol has gone into the fuel pump in the tank and every single drop was drained out them you might get away with it, but if the engine was started, even for only seconds then you have a problem. After a misfuel it essential not to even start the engine. The report of white smoke and lumpy running suggests though that petrol has got into the high pressure fuel system and to the engine 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

LR Assist or most of all the major breakdown companies cover this, some car insurance companies offer it at a extra premium.
The main thing to remember is DON'T/NEVER start your vehicle if mis-fuelled, as that will end up costing you lots. Crying or Very sad
Most forecourts have a number to ring for draining down system etc, as long as not started, then you go on your way.
I know my RRS and I thought most had a insert in filler tube , to stop this happening? Embarassed John

I also thought all Rrs had the miscued device in the filler,,, tried mine out a couple of weeks ago( by accident), managed to get 26p worth of petrol in before it shut off. Good job the tank was empty,, just tanked it to the top after resetting the misfuel device. 2010 RRS, TDV8

Not sure my MY08 TDV8 has the misfuel device...must admit to never having tried it though! 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

The biggest problem with misfueling is the high pressure fuel pump, to achieve the insane high pressure required for a common rail diesel engine the tolerances inside the pump are very small, the pump uses the diesel as a lubricant, if you have petrol in there that has no lubricating properties it basically wears the faces in the pump and leaves you with low fuel pressure spiteful Range Rover Sport tdv8

My 2007MY did, it was a yellow plastic device that was in one of the cutouts in the polystyrene kit holder above the spare wheel. It was simple to use........... Push down the filler hole and reset the flap! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

You can purchase them, not sure if they will fit all the earlier models though?
I also have large warning on inside of filler cap, you can't miss it when putting your cap on the holder before filling.
I couldn't even get the petrol pump nozzle in (after first purchase and switching fuels) let alone get any fuel into tank, according to handbook it shouldn't let any wrong fuel in. Wink

It can be a very costly error misfueling, with fuel pump, replacement seals etc requiring replacement, so please take care out there. Thumbs Up John

I checked today when filling up. The neck has no misfuel device in it. Odd. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
