CLAY BAR?

My Sport is 10 years old and just under 100,000 miles on the cloth. Sections of the car external body work i.e.lower section of all four doors are rough to the touch. I've have just washed, cleaned all these areas and waxed them but the surface is still have a 'orange peel feel' to the touch. Is this where a Clay Bar can be used ?!? Any advice please Andrew Kennedy

Humm...

I would usually clay bar flat surfaces (bonnet) and would do this first with a new clay bar.

Yes you could clay the lower surfaces once you have used the clay on the rest of the body work.

Are you sure it is not tar spots you can feel? It is recommended to remove tar spots before using a clay bar. Autoglym Intensive Tar Remover works pretty well and there are many other products that do the same job. 2008 MY Java Black TDV8 HSE

Thanks for yours!! Just had a closer look, it could be tar although some of the rough patches don't appear to be black? Andrew Kennedy

Buy your self some tar remover and fall out remover, after washing dry the areas, spray with tar remover, let dwell for a few minutes, possible some agitation may be required then wash off and dry, then spray on the fall out remover, this will remove in ground debris such as iron filings, rail dust, brake pad dust, depnding on the colour of your car you can easily see this working as the chemicals turn the contaminants pink, then wash and rinse, then use your clay bar, and make sure you use plenty of lube with it. Some say water is more than adequate, but i would either use a detailing spray, a dedicated clay bar lube or make a solution of water and car shampoo 75% water 25% shampoo.

ps if you cant find tar remover, wd40 works but takes a bit more effort to wash off afterwards.

I had to do a full decontamination on mine as i hadnt done it for a while, I wash an dried and it looked spotless, then applied the fallout remover ( no visable tar) and this surprised me. Then clayed it afterwards for a super smooth finish

I use a clay cloth instead of the bar,if you drop the bar on the floor you have to bin it but with the cloth you can just rinse & use again & again.

I Clayed mine and it is now baby smooth all around..... Except the rear bumper and hatch. It's a big car!!!! I'll do it tomorrow and take some pics. It's really not that hard and I didn't even use the quick detailer. I just over soaped the water with meguires wash' wax and made sure the paint was super sudsy while claying. There's a lot of videos on YouTube. This is the one that made me get more comfy with claying.
