I was sat pondering today and suddenly thought about the emergency park brake release cable fitted on my D3...

Does my RRS have one and if so where is it located? I had a quick look for loose covers but didn't find anything  Cheers Paul

IIRC it is under the cupholders somewhere - nightmare to get to in an 'emergency'

I think someone posted a "how to" not too long ago, but for RHD here's a picture showing the tools from the car tool kit attached to the emergency release cable loop below the EPB switch. (This has to be removed together with the trim panel in front of it for access.) The black rod is the part of the jack handle with the loop on the end, the screwdriver acts as a handle which you pull up on.

Pity there is no information in the handbook. I took these pictures about a year ago when I wanted to know where the emergency release was and how to operate it, having read stories of the brake jamming on and immobilising the vehicle.

First remove the trim cover in front of the switch by inserting the screwdriver in the slot and pressing in to release the trim.

Has anyone got an EPB release process for a right hand drive 2011 model RRS as the area in front of the EPB switch has been redesigned compared with the examples above.?
I have done a search of the website with no luck.

In case anyone needs to know, say for vehicle recovery if there is no electrical power, the emergency release to get the gearlever out of Park is accessed down the same hole as the EPB emergency release.

Re my post above the change to the consul in front of the park brake switch post 2010 now has a leather gaiter around the gear lever. To access the PBR reset cable I presume that you pull up the surround around the gear lever leather surround assumimg that it is held in with the usual LR clips.
Not game to tug on it in case there is something else holding it in.
Don't need to do it now but like to know in case I get a screacher at some point.

On the 2010 -> model the process to get out of PARK is as follows...

1. Pull the gaiter up around the gear change lever to expose the slot it moves in below.
2. To the right of the gear lever adjacent to the 'N' position is a round hole approx 3mm in diameter
3. In the round hole you will see a white 'button'.
4. Push this white button down gently about 5mm to 10mm with a terminal screwdriver or other small suitable object at the same time trying to pull the gear lever back as normal.
5. You will find the lever comes back without any effort as normal.

If you are working around the car push the lever left into tip mode and that will prevent it from being pushed forward accidentally. If you are going to move the car you'll need to leave it in Neutral.

I had to do this today on a 2010 model RRS 3.0 V6.

I have to replace airbags, airbag ecu, dash, front bumper, wing, headlight and a few other bits so if I don't see instructions here I will post.

Used this yesterday on my rrs 2013... 3 garages did not know what to do, this forum saved me
