Very happy with my new range rover and just doing a few jobs to get it right. The sidestepps appear rather pitted and I have been unable to get them clean. What does everyone else do?

Im considering powdercoating or wrapping them but would rather restore them and stay OEM

Do you mean the side strips on them? Or do you have the bars?
If you have side steps, not bars, to clean, I'd use a 0000 gauge wore wool and some metal cleaner (I used the britemax twins, quick Google will find them).
Then get something on them to protect them, either wax or sealant.
Some people have painted/powder coated. Just depends on the looks you're after. Not sure wrapping would stand the test of much time as they are in a pretty vulnerable location. ON THE WAY: BMW F21 M140i

Yes, they were the ones.
Definitely order some 0000 gauge wore wool and a decent metal polish, even something like autosol available from Halfords.

And be careful with what you use to wash with, or what the polish / Romanian car washes use.

Hi, the correct thing to clean them with in an Anodised rubber which is what we use on Aluminium windows and shop fronts to remove stains. It is oil and other liquids that end up getting on them due to there location, if i were you i would keep it simple and wash them, clean with wire wool, mask and spray silver  2007, HSE, Cairnes Blue, Factory tints, Love it !!!

I have a 2010 Range Rover Sport and need to get some rust marks off the silver part of the side steps can someone confirm they ar aluminium please?
I bought T Cut metal polish and it says do not use on chrome finished plastics but is alright for aluminium.

It might not be rust but it is discoloured, thought it was mud till we got it cleaned.

That is why I am checking what the silver part of side steps is.

I always thought it was an aluminium alloy. I used some rubbing compound on mine and it didn't get them perfect, but it certainly improved them...

I also used some abrasive cleaning pads on a drill and it took off the anodizing the pitting and scratches on mine was just too bad .. so im replacing them for black versions.
