Looking for my first RRS

Hey everyone!
New to the forum, looking to buy my first RRS Smile I've had a look at some members cars and they all look very nice!
I'm hoping to get one in black with ivory interior, it would also have to have the rear entertainment, which models have the rear TVs in the headrests?
I'm looking at the 55 reg for the lower tax bracket but can't decide on what engine size to get, so any advice would be greatly appreciated Smile
Thanks
Marco

Rear screens was an option but more likely to be available on the HSE.

For the engine you either have the choice of the 2.7 diesel which has adequate power when you leave your foot flat to the floor or the supercharged.

Your more likey to get Ivory in the supercharged.

Thanks Andy, do you know how easy it is to get aftermarket rear entertainment fitted profesionally and what sort of price id be looking at?
Also what's the mpg between the engine sizes? What sizes do the RRS SC come in?
Thanks

Yes it's common to get aftermarket screens with DVD player. Don't know about price.

Supercharged is 4.2 litre. Double the bhp

My diesel does around 22 mpg

I guess a sc would do 15mpg.

As much as 15mpg! Laughing isn't there a 3.6l and a 5.0l? Or is that on the newer later RRS?
I'll have a look at some companies that do the aftermarket screens and see how much they charge to do it.
What's the difference between the HSE, AB, etc?
Sorry for all the questions.
Thanks

United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Autobiography Santorini Black

Depending on your car history the 2.7 may be more than enough. I've had plenty of fast cars, my 2.7 v6 diesel isn't fast but off the mark it's no slouch. It's when you get to 50+ the acceleration lacks. So far I'm getting 28mpg mainly motorways and a roads but brought down by a few local trips.

Of course if you can afford the fuel get a supercharged. If I didn't use it for commuting I'd have got one no question.

I'm not brushed up on all the differences between the interior specs, but I do know the HSE has a fridge which I've genuinely found useful after 3 days of ownership Smile

HSE was the top factory model in the cheap tax year, giving you memory seats/mirrors, SAT NAV, HID's, Parking sensors, rain sensor, 4 heated seats. 6 CD/MP3 (supercharged has better audio).

A fridge isn't standard on a cheap tax 05 HSE. It's an option

Fair play, I thought the fridge was on every HSE. I stand corrected Smile

United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Sport Supercharged Bonatti Grey

If you are looking in the low tax banding then anything registered before 23rd March 2006 is what you are after so 05, 55 and just into the 06 plates but you will need to check the date of registration on them before you commit.

Your options will be 2.7 V6 diesel, 3.6 V8 diesel, 4.2 V8 supercharged petrol and 4.4 V8 petrol. The 3.0l diesel and the 5.0l petrol were MY10 onwards. Additional trim levels are First Edition, HSE and HST which also come with the body kit. The AB you mention is Autobiography and that again came later. You may also find Khan and Overfinch versions for sale but they are listed for much more over the same like for like RRS.

As for mpg on the supercharged, there is a running thread on that. I've got 30mpg on a motorway run but currently getting 13mpg mostly town and country driving.

Have a search/look around the forum, I'm sure you will find more than enough information to keep you going. You'll also come across some horror stories too, just be aware that these cars can still be costly to run and maintain and you need to keep that in mind when looking to buy. You want to buy the best you can afford and you also want one that has been looked after.

I didn't think the 3.6 diesel was available in this year / the sport ?

4.4 petrol a are rare. Not many purchased. You may as well have the supercharged.

I forgot about the first edition. Common in Orange.

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

First Edition was also equally "common" (IIRC there were 300 of each colour made for WORLDWIDE sales) in Metallic Black or Zambesi Silver.
You could also get an S or SE spec RRS in 2005/2006MY. There was also a special edition Stormer model but that might have been 2006 or 2007, basically a S with some extras, 20" wheels and an HST body kit.
There are some ultra rare 4.4S/C's around but they were pre-production cars that escaped the crusher and IIRC only 2 or 3 of them got out!
Sales of the 3.6V8 TD started in October 2006 for 2007MY, all were HSE or HST production went through to very early 2011MY (IITC production stopped in August 2010) when the engine was dropped as it couldn't comply with the Euro 6 regs.

TBH the extra VED doesn't make a lot of difference, RRS is an expensive car to run in most respects, I would sooner go for a good higher taxed one in good nick and carefully looked after than a worn out lower taxed one that needs lots of repairs and refurbishing generally. 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced
2015MY Corris Grey SDv6 HSE Dynamic, the best car I have ever owned, totally reliable only a cou0le of rattles in 3 years, now no longer in my care
Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

Thanks for the helpful info! I think I know what spec I'm going to go for, hopefully I find one soon as I'm carless at the moment.
Are there any good sites that sell rr apart from the usual auto trader, piston heads...?

Thanks

Wales 2012 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Lux Sumatra Black

Genuine LR fitted and supplied rear entertainment is very expensive if not ordered with original purchase.
Currently I believe you are looking at £5,000 Big Cry for what you require, includes leads, fitting etc.
There may be cheaper suppliers out there, but I didn't bother as trying to keep original.
Price was for my 2012 RRS HSE SDV6. Rolling Eyes John

United Kingdom 2005 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Java Black

When I got my rear entertainment fitted about 5 years ago cost approx. £1200 gvif, veba dvd player in glove box, all the wiring hidden, tv aerial receiver pads on top left & right of the wind screen.

Gvif unit has a reverse camera input, so the summer project is to add a cheap fleebay camera on the boot. So upgrading you can not only just add dvd for the kids but parking camera for you Wink

it sounds like your shopping list was the same as mine but I had to sacrifice rear screen as I was fed up of waiting. I ended up opting for a low miler 06 (55) s/c, black with Ivory.

If you're waiting for one with all the options with a good history and well maintained you'll be waiting a while Very Happy

Weigh up all the options and which is most important to you, for me it was history over everything and I eventually found a good one. That said I've still had the usual issues (battery, brake switch).

Happy Hunting!
