2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey
Use my own car or rent one?

During April and May I have 2 round trips to London and another to Cornwall from Central Scotland. This is going to pile about 3500 miles on my relatively low miler, year old RRS2 (7600 miles on 31st March) in the space of 6 weeks. I got searching on various rental company websites for equivalent or cars that I might like to have a longer drive in with a view to maybe buying in a couple of years time and found Avis can rent me a Jaguar F type V6S drop top or Coupe for £1300 for a week or an L405 FFRR SDv8 for £1500 for the week. Those prices are all inclusive and have unlimited miles. Now would it be better for my own car's value to keep the miles down and rack the miles up on the trip to Cornwall (basically a holiday) in the F Type that belongs to somebody else (and depreciates like a boulder!) or to just to keep piling the miles on my own car? I'm travelling by myself on one London trip and for the trip to Cornwall so I don't need acres of space although an F Type's boot is probably going to be stretched with one bloke's gear to cover all likely weather eventualities for the week! Not sure what size the F Types fuel tank holds either, but for sure it won't achieve the MPG that my RRS gets............ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it
2018 Melting Silver Mini Countryman PHEV - soon to be replaced

As above, drive your own. For me, a few long journeys a year is the only reason that justifies keeping a car like this. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I can see were you are coming from hiring a nice jag soft top for a week, but the chances are the roof will be up all the time and the wipers going like a bat out of hell

Does the excess waiver cover a soaked interior, if so get the wet weather gear on and enjoy it Laughing

2009 Range Rover Sport TDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

When you sell your RRS2 the additional 3500 miles won't make a jot of difference to the price you get after a few years, you certainly won't get £1300 more if it had 3500 miles less but if you want to have a long test drive in a car you are considering buying in the future this would be a good oportunity but you are paying for the privilege. If it were me I'd drive my own vehicle that's what its for Thumbs Up 2019 BMW X3 2.0i M Sport in metalic black- Brilliant

2013 Range Rover Sport SDV6 HSE Stornoway Grey

If I wouldn't do the trip to Cornwall any other way than driving it because even on today's crowded roads I still love driving long distances through our green and pleasant land and if motorway hauls get too boring there is always the longer and slower route to go when I'm not in a great hurry to get anywhere. So it looks like the consensus is to use my own car then, not a problem as my last year has seen my usual annual miles drop from around 10k to 7500 so I have some in hand for the next 12 months! I take the point about the additional miles not having much bearing on the value of the car when I come to sell it. If necessary I can park it up and use my Defender for a few months! 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Tim...relax.....I
Enjoy your car and just drive it.... Mine is a 64 plate now with 29,000 miles on....I drive to Scotland and back a couple of times a month and I enjoy the hideous journey in a stunning car... That's what I bought it for! You're a long time dead.
