Engine fault Special programs off appears when accelerating

Hi all

I drive a RRS 2006 SE 2.7

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same issue as me: When I accelerate the car on a bank or quickly accelerate to go over 60 - 70mph, my dashboard alerts me and displays the message Engine Fault; Special Programs Off. There is a considerable drop in power and the car decelerates to around 30mph, despite the accelerate pedal being pushed right down to the floor.

When I stop the car and switch the ignition off and then back on again, the message disappears and the car seems to have its power back again.

Does anyone else have a similar issue? I'd be grateful if you could advise me what to do. Thanks

Fault codes need to be read, I would change the fuel filter first though.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

I have just bought a 55 plate rrs and I'm having the exact same issues, iv got the car booked in next week to be checked over by a Landrover specialist. Not a great start to Landrover ownership! I knew I'd have issues just thought I'd go longer then a day!

That's the plan, it only does it after accelerating hard a couple of times, then special programs message pings up along with engine fault Big Cry the lights on the special programs dial turn off then it drives fine Censored

I had this happen on my TDV8. Turned out to be the fuel pump failing, which somehow managed to deposit metallic particles in the fuel system. LR dealer replaced the fuel system (yep, the lot) under warranty, thankfully. I've never heard of this happening before, and neither had the dealer, so it's rare. Fingers crossed for you it's the fuel filter. TDV6 2010 HSE

Let's hope so! The car had been stood a couple of weeks on the dealers yard and was very low on fuel when I collected it so with a bit of luck new filter, fresh fuel and a fuel flush might work. Rang the dealer today and he's said try it, he's going to refund me the money and if not he's going to take it back to have a look!

If they don't fix it I would give them the car back and walk away. These cars are decked out with electronics. Bushes, swing arms, bearings etc. are all (relatively) easy to replace, if you get a motor with bad electrics you may as well give up.

Ah finally found someone with at least a suggestion. My 2006 sport has had this issue since purchased privately..I took in to Landrover they told me egr faulty on both sides. One 0% one 40% efficient quoted me 1000 to fix but would promise a fix. I got home popped bonnet and egr have been blanked previously. So confused.. exact same syptoms same place everyday.. One thing I have noticed is I'm getting quite a bit of black smoke when sinking the welly. But hey it does no harm to change fuel filter regardless.. brilliant site thanks

If no luck with the fuel filter would be checking inter cooler hoses next for both splits and collapsing.. 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Thanks for the advice guys, the Landrover blokes coming at the end of next week so hopefully he will let me know (cam belts being done to) if it's terminal and / or he finds any major issues the cars going back! Hope it's just some age related niggles and a simple fix love the car already
