Gearbox won't select gear (L494 MY16)

Hello, all.

I have a new MY16 4.4 TDV8 Dynamic with about 1,000 km on the clock. On two occasions now I have reversed out of my garage and tried to select drive but found that the box will not do it, nor will it return to reverse. It remains in neutral and will roll forward under gravity. It will allow park to be selected but will not subsequently allow it to be released. A momentary engine start/stop does not fix the fault but if I switch off and allow the car to sleep it will restart and operate normally. The gear lever pressel switch does not feel broken in any way, and the car otherwise operates reliably.

Have you had this problem?

BTW, I came from a 2010MY TDV8 Dynamic and the upgrade in engine, handling and everything is Shocked apart from the fuel slap.

Does the gear indicator on the dash flash? This has happened to me once, possibly twice, a while back when the stop/start kicked in at the same time I lifted off the foot brake to drive off.

No warnings on the dash, no audible warnings, and no R or D lights on the gearstick once the problem occurs, but the P light shows when the P button is pushed and the pawl must engage because the car won't roll after that.

Could be the brake light switch (which does a whole lot more than just turn on the brake lights) failing or out of adjustment.

If it can't sense the brake pedal being pressed, it won't release the interlock to let you select a gear. But it wouldn't stop "P" being selected. MY2016 HSE D SDV6 - gone due to fuel dilution problems.
