Automatic Headlight Levelling

Hi,
TDV8 RRS2008 with Auto Levelling Headlights.

Drivers side facing downwards. What controls this? Cannot see any driver mechanism in the headlight?

How do I test or what should I be looking at?

Non Adaptive headlights.

Thanks,

Chilly

I didn't think our vehicles had auto levelling headlights - I thought this was effectively achieved by the air suspension keeping the vehicle level.

But then I only have a poverty pack model and not sure what extra gear the luxo barge models have.

The xenon lights do self level in cooperation with the suspension system. The xenons have a safety feature to prevent glare to oncoming drivers; if the headlight can't be sure where it's pointing, it will lower the beam. The only fix appears to be a new headlight unit - that seems to have fixed the same issue with my MY08.

Interestingly, the lights will also "raise" the beam slightly at speed in order to increase the distance that the beam is projected. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Hi,

Thanks for the replies.

Well, pulled the Headlight out and had a good look....noticed the adjuster was adrift.

All back together and lights adjusted. Now to check alignment when dark.

Thanks.

Chilly

Which adjuster? I notice that your lights are the non-adaptive ones so probably different to the AFS ones on mine. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Inside the headlight. The white plastic ball on the end of the threads was no longer connected to the headlight.

Ah, I see. Glad it was an easy fix - nothing so simple for me, sadly. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders

Mine are active. The horizontal steering system (makes the beam steer left and right) was going awry. Needed a new headlight unit. Luckily sourced for an excellent price from a forum member. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
