Hi guys

It will soon be time for me to consider taking out Extended Warranty on my RRS Black Edition (3 years old on 1st March).

Based on previous comments on the Forum I think I will go with the Land Rover Extended Warranty, but I am unsure whether to take Land Rover Assistance as well (for an extra £150).

With cash back offers etc it would be significantly cheaper to go direct to the AA or Green Flag etc for breakdown cover.

Does anyone have any views on whether Land Rover Assistance offers any real additional benefits compared with the other 'independent' offerings?

Any advice much appreciated!

Would you trust the AA or Greenflag with your expensive RRS i went for the warranty with assist BUT in all honesty i didn't really look for alternatives
With my renewal due in a few months I would be interested to see how you get on

My understanding is that LR Assistance is provided by the AA but is it any different to the 'standard' AA offering ?

I'm having a similar debate with myself on my April 2013 Black Edn

Change car or keep for another 12 months. Keeping incurs warranty cost of £1075 with LR assist (or cheaper if I accept claim limit of £3000 per claim) plus cost of a set of tyres and probably brake pads (3rd year service already paid for as part of service plan). So trying to add this up (£2k) along with additional years depreciation in deciding whether to keep another year or not.

LR assistance is Euro wide so for me it would pay to stick with that since I do a few Euro trip every year

Despite being provided by the AA, LR Assist sends LR technicians when available or if you can wait. When you can't drive your own car, you get a like for like replacement through LR Assist. Also bear in mind that LR Assist is Europe wide. You should look at prices of comparable cover from AA or RAC etc. and decide based on that if any of the above matters to you. Current: Volvo XC90 T8 Inscription Pro PHEV with some optionals on top

I had the LR extended warranty, never had any cause to use it but in my opinion worth every penny for the total peace of mind.

I had the Extended with Assist. On the two occasions I used Assist it was excellent. When turbos failed they took my word for it and sent a flat bed to take me home; none of the dreaded waiting for a tech to come out and then a further wait for the flat bed. The Assist technician came to my house the next morning and agreed my diagnosis, he then had the RRS taken to the dealership and arranged for a replacement. An Evoque for 9 days wasn't a bad replacement in my view - Enterprise provide the cars so getting a Sport was always going to be difficult. After two days the warranty pays for the replacement car and they were happy for me to continue with the Evoque.

The only thing the Extended Warranty didn't cover was lower arm bushes. Anti roll bar bushes were covered as was a long list of other stuff. It paid out more than it cost each year I had it.  2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

If I was to change it wouldn't be for a new RRS for similar reasons . The only LR I would consider is the "run out" Disco model, but in all likelihood I would change for another marque so that I didn't have to experience the dreadful after sales service from the not so local useless LR dealer ever again
