RRS 2.7 Service Questions & spare wheel

At last I have put a deposit down on a 2005 RRS, but it needs a few things doing to it.
So i have some questions that I hope you can help we with.

It needs a service & cambelt.

1) Oil change. How much oil do these take? What grade?
Can I use fully synthetic 5W30?

Are there any tip to jacking the car? FOr example could I crank it up on the air suspension, put axel stands under the front and then turn it off and change the oil?

2) The car is missing a spare wheel (like another I looked at). How do these secure to the car? as I haven't seen trays/cages. Will an alloy fit under there? Would a 19 or 22" fit under there ?

3) Is the coolant tank two halves with the expansion one side? When I took the cap off, that side was empty however the front side was full.

4) Is there a guide on this site on how to change the cambelt? Does anything else need changing at the same time?

Thanks for any replies Very Happy

Hi and welcome to the RRS benevolent fund, sorry owners club Wink

1: 5.5 litres with oil filter, 5w30 I use castrol myself and change at 5000 (oil spec is in the owners man)

2: as you say put into off-road setting, jack up and axle stands.

The spare wheel sits uNder the rear of the car and is held there by means of a winch, which you wind up from inside the car, again check the manual. On both the cars you've checked there prob missing because they've been nicked a common problem easily solved by fitting a protecter supplied by RLD who is on the site. Full alloys will fit..

3: I always keep the coolant topped upto the second rib on the side of the header tank, so just top it up and keep an eye on it..

4: cambelts, recommend you use gen belt kits only, there is the front cambelts and the rear pump belt both are changed at 105000ms or 7 years so check your service book you might be lucky as they should of been changed in 2012 unless it hit the mileage. To change them look up disco mikey on the site as he has a step by step guard..

5: after that ENJOY. Thumbs Up 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current

Belt guide here: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic53674.html I highly recommend changing the oil pump at the same time due to this: http://www.disco3.co.uk/forum/topic57636.html Wink

I'd second the recommendation for Castrol oil - (Magnatec as per original spec, that is; I wouldn't bother with Edge. Note that A1 spec has now "superceeded" to A5). Thumbs Up

Edit: I don't bother with any jacking for an oil change - just off-road height does the trick. Smile Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Thanks for the replies.

No evidence of a cambelt change in the service book.

If I put the height up, won't it drop down when I turn the engine off ?

Is there a recommend place to buy parts, to stop me getting them off ebay? Neutral

No, it won't drop, but I make a habit of leaving a jack beneath it (but not supporting it). For even more room there's also extended mode - lower it onto a carefully placed jack or other object, at which point it senses the obstruction and moves up to extended height. Wink

For service parts etc., look no further than our site sponsors Advanced Factors: http://www.advancedfactors.co.uk/range-rov...13-3-c.asp Top service and very fast. 5% off online with ADVLRF. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

A new key, ready cut and programmed from a good dealer (e.g. sponsors Dusckworth and Yeovil LR) is £130-140, add £50 maximum (TBH it should be nearer half that) to pair this to the car. Keys (for pre-facelift vehicles) can only be programmed once, so second hand keys off Ebay will not work. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

The car has a FBH fitted. It is a 2005 model. How is the FBH turned on, on early models ?

Thank you

Andy K, welcome. Someone will answer your FBH question, but a word of warning when you get the spare wheel fitted. When you wind the winch down and wind it up (from under the boot floor) make sure you apply some weight to the wire. You need to be a bit of a Twister professional but if you don't (and I speak from experience) you will strip the winch as the wire, with no tension, will overlap itself somehow & wreck the winch. I had to replace mine at £120 ish at a LR dealer. Its a common problem for those who merrily wind up the unweighted wire with the punctured wheel in the boot ready to drop off at the puncture repair shop - even worse if the tyre repair people use the airgun on the winch nut - that is a deffo way to release £120 from your wallet!! The FBH is fully automatic and operates at 5'c to help warm up the engine. You can get a man override from bell auto's which you can turn on or off at will with a remote. Use mine all the time, great to go out on a cold morning to a warm engine Thumbs Up 2008 G4 RRSport TDV8 current
