check brake pads warning

Hi Guys, i have a my06 sport and the brake pad warning popped up yesterday.

Anybody have any idea roughly how long i can use the car for without replacing them? - this isnt to be silly or tight, but i dont think i can get any pads today as it is new years day Sad

cheers

You should be fine if the light has only just come on. Just be gentle. Visitor from fullfatrr.com

Must be something in the air (or rather rain) my brake pad warning lights also just come on - but not constantly, must be just on the cusp of needing changing - and I've 600 miles to do before I can get them checked Embarassed

Crazy money! - I took my defender in for its first (6k mile) service, it took 1.5 hours (including being washed) and cost just over £500!! - bearing in mind it was basically brand new so other than oil & a filter (which can't cost that much) how on earth do you get to £500?? (I accept ones got to make a profit & there are overheads to be paid for)
Main dealers, don't you just love them......(& yes in did 'phone several dealers & they all charge the same)

Never good to check the bill, and see the oil cost, that's probably half the total cost of the service, what ever happened to a 5 litre can for £5 from halfords....

Its maybe good enough for a Fiesta, but it's not what you would be putting in a £10k engine Thumbs Up

Get that completely, although we are talking about a defender engine here, not the latest much more modern technology available on newer designed engines.m
Of course we could drift into manufacturer / oil company relationships, many the comparable price for other OEM oils.

You would be surprised just how technically advanced the current Defender engine is Thumbs Up

I do agree though, it's pure profiteering from the dealers. When I was working in the dealership 10 years ago, the oil (Castrol) was £13.95 + VAT per litre! You can buy 4 litres of Magnatec for £20

I too have just replaced my pads and wear sensor on the front as the tears were done not too long ago, anyway the check brake pad warning light is still on but goes off when I press the pedal but comes straight back on, anybody any ideas as to why it would do this? Thanks

sounds like the sensor again... its quite a long cable so could be split somewhere?

i would go back to the garage who changed them and ask for a free check over. - most garages do free checks, and if anything is found they tell you

I changed them myself I have checked continuity across the new sensor and all is good, I'm thinking I may just do away with it and short out the connector as its driving me mad. I read somewhere that it can take a few trips out before it goes out but I have drove it loads and it's still doing it, also would have thought it either worked or it didn't :/

No, it either works or doesn't, no need for multiple trips out. Sounds like you need to check the other sensor, or it's not fully plugged in, or there's a crack (usually where it is angled and goes onto the pad) Bodsys Brake Bible
