Anyone know what this is?

Might sound like a stupid question, but what is this?

On the X5 I had before the RRS we had a unit that could be set to pre-heat the cabin on cold mornings, looked very similar to this, with its own mini exhaust, would love it if that's what this is!!!

If it is, how do I set it up? Haven't seen anything on the screen

Thanks in advance

John

What year is your car?

As far as I can make out from the pictures, you have a 2010>on model, which means you can have Timed Climate enabled on the screen, or Remote Park Heat fitted, exactly the same as the X5

Sweet!!!

Yes it is a 2011.

How do I enable this then? Seems strange to have it but have no controls to use it?

Andy,

"Timed climate" should be an option on the touchscreen "Home" menu. Page 62 in the owners manual gives details.

It may not be enabled in the car configuration file. There is, however, an app for that Smile Regards etc.,

Takes a bit more than just an app to edit the CCF; you do need a proper diagnostic tool. Thumbs Up Visiting from DISCO3.CO.UK

Why would this be fitted but not enabled? Seems strange

Are these fitted as standard on a 2011 HSE?

It's another way for JLR to extract an extra £1000 out of you Rolling Eyes

And it can't be retro fitted, it can only be done at the factory, when the car is new Rolling Eyes

The cheapest way is to have someone enable it for you. I get down there occasionally, but Ian (Bodsy) is there more often. May be worth trying to meet up with him next time he is over that way

Or, buy your own IIDTool and enable it yourself

I contacted Bodsy to enable timed climate on my car, he did it the following day and I've used it loads of times since - it's a really useful function and I love it Thumbs Up

I opted for the remote control as well, so when I'm having my morning brew I turn the heater on while I'm sat in the house. Apart from the benefits of an already warmed engine it definitely takes the chill out of the interior.

Haven't tested it on a heavily iced up windscreen yet so not sure how effective it will be - but based on the interior temp I expect it to clear the windscreen without any problem. 26 Jun 2015 - Just bought my dream car - 😀 2010 RRS HSE

The heater unit is fitted to all diesels and is used automatically by the car to help attain and maintain engine temp in cold weather. You can hear it running at times.

The ability to time it to the owner's demand is a cost option at time of build; LR basically charge £1000 to enable the system in the configuration file. It's an absolute money-grabbing con typical of car manufacturers today.

It is the enabling in the configuration file that is done people hereabouts. At a good deal less than the £1000 LR deem necessary for the job. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Ah that makes sense. Yes I have heard something running in cold weather

Any idea where I can get this activated in the Essex area?

And would doing so affect my 2yr LR warranty?
