I'm based in Berlin, Germany and am thinking of dipping a toe into Range Rover ownership.

Found a 11/07 Range Rover Sport HSE with 89k on the clock for about £12.5k. It's had one owner from new and has a full, main dealer Land Rover service history:

Living here it's quite hard to judge whether this is a good deal or not. Can some of you UK-based recent RR purchasers give me some feedback?

I plan to run it for about 3 years, doing around 8k miles a year. I've budgeted about €5k for servicing / repairs over this period. Am I better using my repair budget to get a newer vehicle?

Looks in a similar price range to the equivalent year and spec over here. Can't remember what your taxes etc are over there, but seems about right.

Thanks. Tax here for <2008 cars is quite reasonable.

Looking at the sites you mentioned it looks like the cars about £2k cheaper than the UK versions. Think I'm going to take a look at it tomorrow and see if I can bag a bargain.

From the pictures it looks well maintained.

Make sure it has a good warranty on it  In Spain - 2018 F Pace - Frightened away from the Sports due to crank failures
Gone - A couple of RRS, A couple of Disco's. However thinking of another Sport.

So, I went to view the car today....

These are the issue I could find on the vehicle:
1) Electric parking brake. This is broken.
2) Air Suspension. The air suspension system is broken. Listening to the air compressor it sounds like it needs to be replaced.
3) Front left fog light. This is smashed and will need replacing.
4) Petrol cap doesn't lock.
5) Tyres. The front left tyre has wear on the outer edge. Could be caused by broken air suspension or wheels need realignment.
6) Rear right door doesn't unlock when car is unlocked.
7) Passenger window mechanism seems slow. Motor may need replacing.

The service history on the vehicle is patchy:
1) The first service is done at the correct time (about 1 year old), however they have not marked whether it was a 'A' or 'B' service (I presume it was an 'A' service)
2) The second service is done at the correct time (2 years old), however they again have not marked whether it was a 'A' or 'B' service (I presume it was an 'B' service)
3) There's then a service gap of about 3 years and 33,000km with no information.
4) During the third service in the book the fuel filter, brake fluid and air cleaner element should have been replaced but it does not say whether this was done.
5) There's then a service gap of about 2 years and 30km with no information.
6) At the fourth service in the book the transfer case oil and flexible brake hoses should have been replaced (I think I saw that the brake hoses had been replaced when inspecting).
7) There has been no service for 30,000km since 06/03/2014.

I asked them whether they would be doing the next service and fixing the faults before they sold the car. Their response was:

"Sorry, you really expect much too much.
If we do all this work we have to take about 5000,-€ on top plus warranty."

Walk away.

Also in my garage is a 1996 TDi300 Defender 90 County HT made into a fake CSW

It's the service history that concerns me the most. No detail on what was carried out and patchy (although it does seems to have been done at Land Rover main dealers).

This is by far one of the most expensive 2.7 TDV6's I've seen. Just 180 kilometers to the East and you can buy a TDV8 for this money. Here's an accident-free car originally bought in Poland, so not an individual import, with service history etc:

Mmm, that's interesting. Didn't know much about the polish market but what I do know is that they tend to keep the vehicles well maintained because labour is so cheap (many Germans send their cars their for servicing). Are you Polish? Do you have a way in to this market? I can't run a TDV8 (tax is too high) so has to be either 2.7 or 3.0.

That Berlin based 2.7 is actually pretty well priced in the Berlin market.

I quite obviously can not vouch for any particular car (mine included, LOL) but this seems a genuine offer. I don't believe there is a lot of TDV6's in proper condition here, though. Most of them come from Italy, in a form of a plague. Regards etc.,

Hah! Yes, I noticed that here as well in Berlin. The two that I've looked at so far have both come from Italy. Why is that?

RRS is extremely popular over there, especially since the Italians were deducting the VAT from the big car with an engine smaller than 3 liters. More or less same thing in Greece, believe it or not.
Most of them do not have the winter pack, though, which - for me at least - is a must. And once they are out of warranty, they are not maintained at all. I have seen every kind of Italian disregard to the car when I was shopping for my car, from destroyed interiors to engine oil changed every 30000 kilometers to forceful setting the car to drive in access height only... I'd hesitate to buy a Ferrari from an Italian, not to mention something British. Regards etc.,
