Broken Down - Honeymoon over

After just over 1800 miles in what has been the nicest car I have owned its let me down and has been towed away to the dealer.

Left it parked up for just over an hour, came back and it would not start, instrument panel lit up for about 5 seconds with various warning lights plus lowered suspension and low range lights flashing on the centre console. Drivers instrument panel then went black and centre panel never lit up at all.

Tried locking leaving for 15 mins, tried again, this time engine started and amongst the warning lightwas 'Reduced power steering' plus all the others as before. Engine run for a few seconds then shut down, again everything dead.

Called LRA and a local garage came out within 20 mins, pluged in the fault reader - no reading everything dead so its a tow away to the nearest dealer 125 miles away.

No transport at the moment LRA said they will try and get me a hire car late Monday.

Anyone else had a similar issue?

Took delivery 1st October so under 3 months old, thinking of rejecting and trying to get my money back, I seem to recall customer rights altered in October.

It was a big leap of faith buying another LR product after very bad experience with an Evoque. Up to now the RRS has been perfect, smooth, well put together, rattle free but will I ever trust it again, living in a remote area reliability is essential.

Tony,

Sorry to hear your tale of woe. I recall you saying this was LR's last chance, just prior to you picking up the new RRS. If you are going to replace it, what are you going to choose? If not, I'm sure MacRae & Dick will try and sort you out, they have provided me with excellent service. PM me if there's anything I can do for you.

Regards,

Hi Jock,

Thanks for the offer, I will have to wait and see what M&D say when they get it back, doubt it will get to them until tomorrow afternoon. Would like the RRS back before Christmas, when the Evoque suffered gearbox failure LRA loaned me a 7 year old VW polo! so not holding out any hopes of a like for like loan car.

Too early to say what I would replace it with, until today I was more than happy with the RRS but it needs to be something that won't leave me stranded in the Censored ing rain.

Andy,

Thats how it should work but I am 125 miles from the nearest dealer so LRA sub contract the loan car to whichever hire company is nearest to me with a car available.

From past experience with LR breakdowns and what I was told at the time its LRA's call to supply a loan car not the dealer, although if I was nearer to the dealer I am sure they would provide a decent JLR loan car.

Hi there. Sorry to hear about the issues. LR will provide you with like for like but you'll possibly need to involve LRCS.

You'll also have a pretty strong case for rejection and a replacement vehicle if this is what you'd like.

Andy,

Will let you know what I get if something arrives tomorrow afternoon, although when my Evoque was towed away last summer it took 3 days to get a hire car and they wanted it back after another 2 days.

LRA only provides a vehicle for 2 days. After that it is down to the garage / warranty to provide something. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

In that case I need to read the book or get in touch with LRCS as the dealer is going to struggle to get a car to me but thats LR's problem to sort. 2018 MY19 HSE Dynamic, Santorini, Ebony/Ivory, Sliding pano, Adaptive cruise, Black wheels. Arrived 3rd September 2018

DO - I find talking to both LRCS and the Dealer works best, not to play them off against each other, but ensure both have limited room to manoeuvre against the position you find yourself in.

My last vehicle was returned to LR in August and LRCS have me in a loan RRS at present, until the replacement is built and arrives in the new year.

I hope it is something simple. Even with the new legislation they need to be given an opportunity to rectify the situation, so best to see what response you get from Dealer before shouting the odds on that one... - But it is absolutely there if you don't like / accept the response.

I know the issues that you went through with your Evoques so am really sorry that your RRS has a problem. Lets hope it is something silly, I appreciate that living where you do a car is really important and and Land Rover is supposed to be able to hack the worst conditions and come through laughing, plainly the Highlands of scotland is proving a bit tough for Lasnd Rover and maybe they should more testinmg here at home in the cold and wet than they do from the luxury hotels of Dubai and Abu Dhabi............ 2020 Pangea Green 1st Edition D240 New Defender 110 is here and loving it

Everything dead - battery is probably shot - could be defective battery or bad alternator killed battery. Yeah - should not happen on new car - but it can. Let us know what it turned out to be. I'm just replacing a dead alternator on bmw - similar symptoms - but ok - it is 12 years old and 120k miles Smile

Australia 2013 Range Rover Sport TDV8 HSE Fuji White

My new RRS ended up on a tow truck within a day or so of ownership - my partner drove it to work and couldn't get it to start when leaving. She had to call out roadside assistance who gave the battery some juice and told her to 'drive it around for 30 mins'.

I told her to drive it home and I'd take it out for a spin and low and behold it spluttered and choked and the electrics went haywire.

What followed then was a two hour wait for the tow truck to take it to a pound ready to go to the dealers the next day.

Very disheartening and worrying that you've wasted a lot of money on a bad product.

But after that rocky start I had 18 months or trouble free motoring and have now upgraded it to another.

Dealer suggested it was bad connection/terminal on the battery. I think these car have soo much electric gadgetry that the slightest issue in this regard they go crazy.

Unaware of your previous issues, but I guess I am saying is it could be something simple and easy to rectify so don't give up hope on this one just yet.

Positive Mental Attitude maybe!

Good luck. MY15.5 Fuji White, SDV8 HSE Dyn Stealth Pack
