Body control unit problem??

Hi

This problem started when we had really bad rain in Ayrshire

First the cars heater/blower was cutting off intermittently (switch lights go off and on)
The outside temp bit of the dashboard changes from whatever degrees it is out side to 3 little lines
The hazard lights will flash intermittently
The central door locks will open/close intermittently
Stereo/nav screen cuts out every now and again
Interior light sometimes comes on
Sometimes when trying to start the car it will only lock/unlock the central locking and not turn over the engine

Had the car in st the garage and it was showing loss off communication faults but no one can say for certain what the problem is , I don't want to spend £550 on a body control unit and still have these problems

Any ideas or anyone any experience of this kind of faults?

Any help would be appreciated

Cheers
Andy

You have a CAN BUS issue, which can be quite problematic to track down

Most common place for issues is the TCCM, behind the battery
The IPC has a tendency for a loose connection at its rear. A bang on the top of the dash temporarily cures this, but would not be related to rain
Lots of wiring for the EPB, and RDCM underneath the car

I wouldn't expect it to be the BCM, uses your carpets and/or pollen filter are soaking wet

Essentially, diagnostics is isolating each part of the CAN BUS network, and see if that cures it Thumbs Up

My car is has exactly the same fault, central locking going on its own, interior lights come on,hazzards stay on, outside temp display goes off, radio and sat nav stop working, and won't start, fitted a new battery first and found a loose earth connection on the inner ns wing, it still faults intermittently ,I can get the fault to go by banging on the top of the passengers side dash board, does anyone know what is under the dash board on the passengers side that is affecting the fault?? I have checked the connections in the engine bay and the connections on the TCCM all look ok, seems to be what ever is high up under the dash ????

At last, found the fault, narrowed the banging on the dash down to tapping on the instrument cluster glass to cure the fault for a bit, it happened more and more towards the end. I suspected the instrument cluster to be at fault causing can bus faults, removed it and stripped it down, found one of the main connector/plug pins at the PCB with a small crack in the solder, just a fresh bit of solder on it cured the whole non starting/can bus fault which I have had for 3

months Thumbs Up [/b]

Thanks, it took some finding, and the setting up of the temp and fuel gauge needles, putting the instrument cluster back together was a right pain but its back together now working well Whistle
