help needed strobe brake light

I have a bit a odd ball guys Shocked

My brake lights and gear selector solenoid are activating on there own like a flickering effect. Yet when i turn the car exterior lights off completely, the brake lights and gear selector operate on normal function by depressing the brake petal. All bulbs seem to be fine nothing blown and no change of bulbs have been made in the last few months.

Could any one shed any light on this, or any dianostics procedures i can preform.

First thing to look at must be the brake switch on the pedal. Cheap (about £15 I think) and quick DIY fix. 2012 SDV6 - it's missing a couple of cylinders
2008 TDV8 - it was a labour of love and is much missed

Just a update on the issue I had.

On advise from fellow forum member sourced a brake light switch and swapped that out didnt take to much time at all. Good start point but unfortunately not the answer.

Got it on the local indy diagnostic and it came up as Body Electric Control Module (BECM). Got my self booked in with him but i had a gut feeling it would be simpler than that.

So then i started thinking maybe its a bulb, checked all exterior bulbs nothing all illuminating as they should.

I then took passenger and the driver side rear light out and disconnected it from the clip turn by turn, appeared to be a short in the wiring at the cluster on the driver side rear. Quick rummage round the old garage and found a spare light i had knocking about swapped it over and everything was spot on. Thumbs Up

I have now joined thr many other rrs owners who have experienced the dark side to the electric gremlins caused by a simple problem. Hope this helps any one else who may come across with similar issues. At least its one direction to start looking.

Maybe a bad bulb or circuit in the cluster. Very big problem to come from a bad light 😯

It was definitely in the wiring I did swap all the bulbs for new ones once I knew the replacement worked just to be on the safe side for that very reason, and yes such a strange issue from a wire
